Buccaneers | Vincent Jackson serving as a mentor

Mon, 21 May 2012 07:27:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson has been mentoring the team's receivers during offseason workouts. "We still get advice from each other, too, but it's mostly coming from him now," WR Mike Williams said of Jackson. "He's been showing us a lot of what he's seen throughout his long career and his 1,000-yard seasons and his Pro Bowl seasons."

Buccaneers | Vincent Jackson immediately improves wide receivers

Tue, 13 Mar 2012 17:47:02 -0700

The addition of WR Vincent Jackson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense immediately gives the team the No. 1 wide receiver the team and fans were looking for. Jackson, at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, is a big target with surprising speed and an ability to get open downfield. The team said in January they would spend whatever it takes to win in the future, and they did just that as soon as the free-agent market opened. Buccaneers wide receivers struggled to get open last year, leading to a poor season by QB Josh Freeman. With Jackson, 29, in town, the hope is he will draw the attention of opposing defenses and open things up for WRs Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn, who become the second and third receivers, respectively. The Buccaneers have also made it clear they are building the team around Freeman, and considering they are looking at high-profile offensive linemen they may not be done spending money yet.

Buccaneers | Vincent Jackson agrees to five-year deal

Tue, 13 Mar 2012 17:28:09 -0700

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached a five-year deal with free-agent WR Vincent Jackson (Chargers). It is worth $55.55 million, which includes $26 million in guaranteed money. Jackson will land $36 million in the first three years of the contract, including $26 million in the first two years.

Fantasy Tip: Josh Freeman has the arm to take advantage of Jackson's deep prowess, but this is a downgrade from Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers' passing attack; Tampa Bay will probably still be a run-heavy club. New offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan had recent success as the New York Giants' wideout and QB coach, so maybe there's a future for this vertical game, but for now, it's hard to value Jackson as more than a midrange No. 2 fantasy WR in standard scoring. In point-per-reception setups, he's downgraded to a high-end No. 3.

Freeman still can't be trusted as a No. 1 fantasy signal caller, but this move could actually make Mike Williams an attractive buy-low rebound candidate, especially in PPRs. Williams isn't a pure No. 1 wideout; now that he has a downfield complement to stretch the field, he could work within the game he's familiar with and on more occasions deliver No. 3 or flex value for his position.

Raiders | Vincent Jackson could be an option

Tue, 06 Mar 2012 16:16:08 -0800

The Oakland Raiders could go after a big-name free-agent wide receiver like Vincent Jackson (Chargers) during the free-agent market. Adding a player like Jackson would give QB Carson Palmer a solid No. 1 target and take pressure off of the team's other wide receivers. The Raiders don't have a ton of room to work with under the salary cap, so Jackson would have to be willing to take more money later in his deal.

Mon, 05 Mar 2012 05:07:24 -0800

According to people familiar with preliminary discussion between teams and agents for impending free-agent wide receivers, it would be shocking if the market for San Diego Chargers impending freee-agent WR Vincent Jackson topped $12.5 million a year. There is a belief by many of those same people that Jackson's numbers won't approach that average. Also, it is believed by several people close to Jackson that he so sincerely wants to remain in San Diego, with QB Philip Rivers and head coach Norv Turner, that he will take less from the Chargers than he might get elsewhere.
