There does not appear to be any way San Diego Chargers impending free-agent WR Vincent Jackson returns to the team in 2012. The team will not place the franchise tag on Jackson, and there will be too much interest in Jackson from teams around the NFL.

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said he hopes the team can re-sign impending free-agent WR Vincent Jackson. "The way he performed this year speaks to how valuable he is to our team," Turner said. "From a coaching standpoint, I'd love to have him here. When you look at his production, his average per catch separates him from a lot of guys."

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent WR Vincent Jackson said that he would like to sign a long-term deal with the team. "I would like to stay in San Diego. Obviously, that's my home, that's where I was drafted," Jackson said. "I've got some good guys around me – Philip Rivers (Antonio) Gates, Ryan Mathews. It would be a great place for me to stay, so we'll see if that works out." Jackson, however, added he would rather not receive the franchise tag again.

San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson said Wednesday, Jan. 25, after practice at the Pro Bowl that the team has not yet contacted him about working out a long-term deal. Sources said general manager A.J. Smith is now "comfortable" exploring a long-term contract with the receiver.

San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson had two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the Oakland Raiders, and he added a 41-yard run. Jackson posted 1,106 yard and nine touchdowns. The TD total tied his career-high set in 2009, and his yardage total was just 61 yards short of his best, also set in '09. It was Jackson's third 1,000-yard season.
