The latest Dennis Boyd MLB and fantasy baseball news
Mon, 13 Feb 2012 00:50:46 -0800 Former Boston Red Sox P Dennis Boyd admitted to cocaine use in his time in Major League Baseball. Boyd says he probably pitched under the influence of cocaine "at every ballpark" during his 10-year career. "There wasn't one ballpark that I probably didn't stay up all night, until 4 or 5 in the morning, and the same thing is in your system," Boyd said in an interview with Jon Miller of WBZ radio in Boston. "It ain't like you had time to go and do it while you were in the game, which I have (done) that."
Sun, 15 Feb 2009 10:03:05 -0800 Former MLB SP Dennis Boyd is considering a comeback at the age of 49, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe. He said his velocity is in the low 90s, and he believes his shoulder is stronger than ever. "I spoke to some people about it," Boyd said. "If I was given an opportunity, I'd love to work my way back. I think it would be good for the game. It shows me baseball is a forgiving game."
Mon, 14 Nov 2005 10:04:43 -0800 The Associated Press reports former MLB SP Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd, 45, surrendered to police on charges that he threatened a former girlfriend. John G. Raucci, special agent in charge of the FBI in Mississippi, and U.S. Attorney Jim M. Greenlee said in a statement that Boyd allegedly made five telephone calls in which he threatened to harm the ex-girlfriend, who also was his business associate, and possibly her son. Authorities would not say why no firm accusation was made concerning the woman's son and did not reveal their names. If convicted, Boyd could receive up to 25 years in prison, three years' supervised release and up to $250,100 in fines.
Tue, 25 Jan 2005 12:35:12 -0800 The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reports former MLB SP Dennis Boyd, 45, is planning to make a comeback to baseball. He plans to pitch for the Independent League Brockton Rox this spring. Boyd last pitched in the majors in 1991 when he developed blood clots in his right shoulder that required injections of blood thinners into his stomach. And he feels he was blackballed by major league baseball because of his flamboyant style. "I'm throwing the ball as well as I ever have," Boyd said. "I probably throw 90 and I'm throwing all my pitches."
