Fri, 17 Feb 2012 06:58:22 -0800 Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II said he had nothing to do with the hiring of Todd Haley as offensive coordinator. Rooney added he was a bit surprised that head coach Mike Tomlin hired Haley. "I think the bottom line is, Mike was comfortable that's who he wanted to come in," Rooney said. "It may be fair to say that when he started the discussions and Todd's name was on his original list, I don't think he expected that Todd was the guy he was going to wind up hiring. But as he had more conversations with him, he became more comfortable that he was the right guy for the job."

He is in the final year of his contract, and it is unclear if he is retiring or not having his contract renewed. Roethlisberger said Wednesday, Jan. 4, he had a setback. "Certainly, I would characterize it as no worse," Tomlin said. "I have yet to see him, of course, today. We will see how he is moving forward. I mentioned (the injured ankle) because of protocol, to be quite honest with you. You have to acknowledge existing injuries, moving forward, it is NFL protocol. I am not overly concerned about his physical state and preparation for this game."
Wed, 21 Dec 2011 08:34:47 -0800 Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) is expected to sit out at least one game because of his ankle injury. Head coach Mike Tomlin has not made a decision on Roethlisberger at this time.

Fantasy Tip: Don't view Dixon as anything more than a No. 3 fantasy football quarterback during the first month of the season. He is simply keeping the starting job warm until Ben Roethlisberger returns from his four-game suspension. Look for the Steelers to reel in their offense a bit with the youngster starting, as they will rely more on RB Rashard Mendenhall and their running game during the first quarter of the season.

There had been speculation that Tomlin would fire Arians, who has been a lightning rod for fan criticism as the Steelers have become a more pass-oriented attack and struggled in short-yardage running situations. When asked specifically about a rumor that QB Ben Roethlisberger talked him out of firing Arians in early January, Tomlin said, "All false. It's really a joke. I don't know where it came from. "You have to like Baltimore. They won 11 games last year with a rookie head coach and a rookie quarterback. They have a good football team. They have a great defense, they have a quarterback who proved he's their quarterback of the future, he's a guy on the rise. You have to respect that," Tomlin said.
