Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II said he had nothing to do with the hiring of Todd Haley as offensive coordinator. Rooney added he was a bit surprised that head coach Mike Tomlin hired Haley. "I think the bottom line is, Mike was comfortable that's who he wanted to come in," Rooney said. "It may be fair to say that when he started the discussions and Todd's name was on his original list, I don't think he expected that Todd was the guy he was going to wind up hiring. But as he had more conversations with him, he became more comfortable that he was the right guy for the job."

Steelers | Dennis Dixon named starter

Mon, 06 Sep 2010 09:58:08 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has named QB Dennis Dixon the starting quarterback for Week 1, reports Bob Pompeani, of KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh.

Fantasy Tip: Don't view Dixon as anything more than a No. 3 fantasy football quarterback during the first month of the season. He is simply keeping the starting job warm until Ben Roethlisberger returns from his four-game suspension. Look for the Steelers to reel in their offense a bit with the youngster starting, as they will rely more on RB Rashard Mendenhall and their running game during the first quarter of the season.

When asked specifically about a rumor that QB Ben Roethlisberger talked him out of firing Arians in early January, Tomlin said, "All false. It's really a joke. I don't know where it came from. I think it was generated by people outside of our building. I didn't have an opinion regarding it then and I really don't now."
