Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports former Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan, who is the coordinator for the Orlando franchise in the UFL, said he believes the NFL should reinstate LB Odell Thurman. Thurman played for Orlando this season and Bresnahan said he was a big factor on the team. "Odell played lights-out football. It was really fun to watch him come back and do the things he loves to do," Bresnahan said. "On the practice field, in the games, even in the meeting rooms during training camp and the season, he was incredible. His personality is infectious. He did a tremendous job."

The Associated Press reports former Cincinnati Bengals LB Odell Thurman has pleaded not guilty to breaking a man's jaw during a fight while in line at a water park. Thurman was arraigned in Erie County Thursday, July 31, on a charge of felonious assault. Police are saying that Thurman punched a man in the face May 27 after they argued about a place in line. Thurman was suspended indefinitely in June after violating the National Football League's substance abuse policy. He is free on $20,000 bond and has a pretrial hearing scheduled for Aug. 25.

The Associated Press reports Northern Ohio authorities were seeking free-agent LB Odell Thurman (Bengals) Friday, July 11, on a felony assault warrant. Thurman was indicted last week by an Erie County grand jury, accusing him of punching a 19-year-old man. According to police, Thurman punched the man in the face, breaking his jaw, after they argued about a place in line at a water park resort.

Updating a previous report, John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports free-agent LB Odell Thurman (Bengals) was suspended indefinitely by the NFL Friday, June 6, for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. Thurman will be out of football for his third consecutive season. A league spokesman said Thurman will not be eligible for reinstatement until after the 2008 season.

Sharon Coolidge, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Hamilton County Municipal Judge John Burlew told Cincinnati Bengals LB Odell Thurman on Tuesday, Aug. 21, that the National Football League was wrong to suspend him for the 2007 season due to a drunken-driving conviction. During a hearing on a probation violation case, Burlew called NFL officials "hypocrites" for promoting alcohol consumption during games, but punishing their employees for drinking. Thurman, was suspended last season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy after a DUI last year, applied for reinstatement for the 2007 season but was denied.

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports suspended Cincinnati Bengals LB Odell Thurman has filed discrimination claims with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in an attempt to have his suspension overturned. The lawsuit was filed with the EEOC under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Thurman contends that he has been viewed as an alcoholic in the eyes of the NFL, and that perception is the basis for the punitive actions that were imposed by commissioner Roger Goodell. Thurman was suspended for repeat violations of the NFL substance abuse policy. The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits employers from discriminating against workers with disabilities. Representatives for Thurman contend that alcoholism is a disability.

The Associated Press reports Cincinnati Bengals LB Odell Thurman received a suspended sentence of 90 days in jail Wednesday, Feb. 21, stemming from his arrest last September for driving while intoxicated. He does not have to serve the jail time right away because the judge of the case said he will reduce the sentence if Thurman goes through rehab and stays out of trouble. Thurman will appear in court June 5 to determine whether or not he serves the full sentence. Thurman also had his driver's license suspended for a year and was fined $250 plus court costs.

Thurman registered a .17, which is considered a high-tier reading, said police officials. Thurman was released to a sober driver and cited to appear in court Oct. 2. Thurman is currently serving a four-game suspension for his second violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. If convicted, Thurman would be subject to additional NFL discipline, including a fine or longer suspension.
