Titans | McPherson suing team for $20 million

The Associated Press reports former New Orleans Saints QB Adrian McPherson is suing the Tennessee Titans because the team's mascot hit him with a golf cart during an exhibition game in August. McPherson filed the civil lawsuit in Davidson County Circuit Court. He is seeking $5 million in compensatory damages for the team's negligence and $15 million in punitive damages.

Brett Martel, of the Associated Press, reports New Orleans Saints QB Adrian McPherson (knee) returned to Millsaps College after spending Thursday, Aug. 18, getting a second opinion from doctors in New Orleans. Head coach Sean Payton said there was no change from the initial diagnosis of a bruised bursar, or an inflammation of a sack of fluid behind the knee cap. The injury has prevented McPherson from practicing and is expected to keep him out of Monday night's preseason game, Aug. 21.

Randy Rosetta, of the Advocate, reports New Orleans Saints QB Adrian McPherson (knee) spent Thursday, Aug. 17, in New Orleans getting a second opinion on his injured knee. The injury was diagnosed as a knee bruise, but McPherson hasn't been able to straighten his right leg since the incident. "He's having his second opinion done in New Orleans (Thursday)," head coach Sean Payton said. "Maybe he gets more information. Maybe we get more information."

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports the NFL will take no disciplinary action against the Tennessee Titans or their mascot T-Rac, who injured New Orleans Saints QB Adrian McPherson by running into him with a golf cart last Saturday, Aug. 12. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league's football operations department investigated the incident and sent a memo to all 32 teams reminding them that mascots must stay behind the six-foot white border surrounding the field at all times. "No, the club is not going to be disciplined," Aiello said.

Walker, of the Associated Press, reports Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher expects the NFL will contact him regarding the accident involving T-Rac, the Titans' mascot, and New Orleans Saints QB Adrian McPherson. Fisher also tried to contact Saints' head coach Sean Payton about the incident. "We'll do our best to keep you informed as we move through the issue," Fisher said. "I just hope the player (was) not seriously hurt and doesn't miss any practice time. Beyond that, we'll take a hard look at what we're doing. We'll make some adjustments and move on."

The Associated Press reports New Orleans Saints QB Adrian McPherson (undisclosed) was injured during the game Saturday, Aug. 12, when a golf cart ridden by the Tennessee Titans' mascot hit him at the end of halftime. The mascot was riding on the cart and throwing items into the stand and hit McPherson as the team returned from their locker room for the third quarter. McPherson stayed on the field for a few minutes and was checked out by a trainer on the sideline before walking off the field.

Head coach Sean Payton was impressed with his progress at quarterback, but does not want to see him go to waste if he can't work his way to become the team's No. 2 quarterback. Payton said, "I want to see him do a lot of things. He's a great athlete. He might be the best athlete on the team. To give a guy a full opportunity to make the team, it would be smart of me to see him do some things other than just take snaps. Can he catch the ball at receiver, can he return punts, can he cover? Because the more he can do, the better his chances are for making the team."

Dennis Maffezzoli, of the Herald Tribune, reports New Orleans Saints QB Adrian McPherson is already set to begin his offseason workout program. He will begin working Tuesday, Jan. 3, with Steve DeBerg, his former head coach with the Arena Football League's Indiana Firebirds. "A heavy dose of off-season training, I can tell you that much," McPherson said on what his future holds. "I feel like I need to get better, and I know that's the guy who's going to push me to the limit and push me to get better every day." He did not play at all during the 2005 season, but he does not consider the season a waste. McPherson said the biggest lesson he learned this season was patience. The Saints haven't told McPherson whether or not he will be going to play in NFL Europe to gain more experience.

Sheldon Mickles, of the Advocate, reports with his team officially eliminated from the NFC playoff race, New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett said he's going to do the only thing he can at this point - try and win football games. To that end, Haslett said he plans to keep QB Aaron Brooks in as his starting quarterback. Haslett was asked Monday, Dec. 5, if he had any plans to move up third-string QB Adrian McPherson for the final four games of the 2005 season due to Brooks' struggles. "Off of the top of my head, I would say no," Haslett said of moving McPherson, a fifth-round draft pick this spring, ahead of Todd Bouman in the quarterback pecking order. "We haven't really sat down and discussed it, but I would say no." Haslett didn't say if Bouman would get a chance to get some snaps in the final four games.
