Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) said he will be ready for training camp in July after having minor surgery to remove a cyst on his back that will keep him out of organized team activities for the next three weeks. "If this was the regular season and I had to play next week, I could," Romo said. "This is just about being smart. That's why I did it now. This will have no effect on training camp. No way will it have an impact. And I still think there's a good chance I'm on the field for minicamp." The team does not fear that this will be a long-term injury, but they'll be cautious with him. Romo said the cyst was causing a constant ache in his back. QB Kyle Orton will work with the first-team offense with Romo out.
Fantasy Tip: Romo will miss valuable time during OTAs gaining chemistry with his receivers and tight ends, but he'll have plenty of time to regain that during the team's June minicamp and training camp in July. This shouldn't affect Romo's draft stock at all as a midrange No. 1 QB.

The Dallas Cowboys are happy with their quarterback pair of Tony Romo and backup Kyle Orton. The team is not expected to add a third-string quarterback or even look at the position during the free-agent market. Developing a long-term starting option at the quarterback position isn't a need right now so it likely will not take on a sense of urgency until future seasons.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo could serve as the holder on field goal attempts in Week 6, according to head coach Jason Garrett. Ps Chris Jones (knee) and Brian Moorman (groin), whose status for the game is uncertain because of injuries, would normally handle the holding duties. Garrett said backup QB Kyle Orton would be another candidate.
