Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner has downplayed the team's signing of QB Brian Hoyer, and Turner also has praised QB Brandon Weeden for his relentless work ethic. "I think there have been more stories written about Brian Hoyer being a Brown over the last four months than probably any player in history," Turner said. "He was released. He was available. He's a guy that has been with some good teams in backup situations. He's played very little football, but I do think we like his skill set."
Fantasy Tip: It's clear that Turner and the coaching staff have anointed the quarterback job as Weeden's to lose over Jason Campbell and Hoyer. Assuming Weeden doesn't fall flat on his face in training camp, expect him to be starting for Cleveland in Week 1.
Sun, 19 May 2013 18:30:23 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Thaddeus Lewis is not expected to make the team following the signing of QB Brian Hoyer. QB Brandon Weeden is expected to be the starter, with QB Jason Campbell as the backup and Hoyer as the third QB.
Sun, 19 May 2013 10:37:12 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell is expected to enter training camp as the favorite for the No. 2 quarterback job but will have to compete with QB Brian Hoyer for the role.
Sat, 18 May 2013 13:18:34 -0700
The Cleveland Browns are expected to take QBs Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, Brian Hoyer and Thaddeus Lewis to training camp this season.
Fri, 17 May 2013 11:37:39 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell is clearly bigger than QB Brandon Weeden and appeared to perform better than Weeden during organized team activities Thursday, May 16.
Fantasy Tip: Even though Campbell may have looked better, he has been working against the second-team defense while Weeden has been working against the starting defense. Weeden still appears to be the favorite for the starting job at this point be he will have to earn it. Weeden should be seen as a risky No. 2 fantasy quarterback at this point.
Thu, 16 May 2013 11:21:19 -0700
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said the team likely will continue to use QB Brandon Weeden with the first-team offense and QB Jason Campbell with the second-team offense during organized team activities but it is too early to name a starting quarterback.
Thu, 16 May 2013 10:10:32 -0700
Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden opened up this week at the team's offseason team activities as the starter, with QB Jason Campbell relegated to second-team duties. It appears that the starting quarterback job will be Weeden's to lose this year. The team is hoping Weeden fits better in head coach Rob Chudzinski's aerial attack than he was in former head coach Pat Shurmur's West Coast offensive system.
Fantasy Tip: It's a positive that Cleveland will look to attack through the air more often under Chudzinski, but their receiving weapons remain largely unchanged, excluding the addition of Davone Bess. Greg Little and Josh Gordon are excellent deep threats but remain mostly inconsistent and frustrating. This offense will continue to run through Trent Richardson. Weeden could be a decent backup QB option, but don't expect much more.
Tue, 07 May 2013 07:08:32 -0700
Although Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell will receive a chance to compete for the team's starting quarterback job, QB Brandon Weeden will most likely start in Week 1. The only way Weeden doesn't is if he struggles in training camp and the preseason. He has the strong arm that should mesh well in an offense run by head coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.
Fri, 03 May 2013 20:23:01 -0700
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell will be given a legitimate shot to beat out QB Brandon Weeden for the starting quarterback job, according to league sources. "I've been pleased with Jason (Campbell) and the role he's taken on being there," head coach Rob Chudzinski said. "Brandon is getting the reps with the first team and working with the first group. A lot of this will remain to be seen when we get into pads and we get into real football instead of the football where you walk around in shorts on air."
Fri, 03 May 2013 06:19:17 -0700
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said Thursday, May 2, that he is not yet ready to hand the starting quarterback job to QB Brandon Weeden, even though the team did not select a quarterback in the NFL Draft. "I feel good about where we're at right now," Chudzinski said. "He's been working with the first group and we'll just see as we go forward. We're (working) on air right now so it's very early but I do like what I've seen so far and we'll see how it goes. Right now it's too early to say anything one way or another." Weeden will compete with QB Jason Campbell for the job.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 20:58:46 -0700
The Cleveland Browns made it clear this offseason that they want QB Brandon Weeden to take more of a leadership role, and he's accepted the challenge. He is the clear-cut starter over QB Jason Campbell, although the coaches still could still use the newcomer Campbell if they feels he gives them the best chance to win. Since current management did not draft Weeden, he is believed to have less room for error.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 10:52:11 -0700
Cleveland Browns OT Joe Thomas said QB Brandon Weeden has been working with the first-team offense during offseason workouts. QB Jason Campbell has been working with the second-team offense.

Cleveland Browns chief executive officer Joe Banner said QB Brandon Weeden will enter training camp as the starting quarterback; however, QB Jason Campbell will compete for the job.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 11:13:44 -0700
The Cleveland Browns are expected to release QB Colt McCoy soon. McCoy has become expendable now that the Browns signed QB Jason Campbell.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 18:35:02 -0700
The Cleveland Browns signed free-agent QB Jason Campbell (Bears) to a two-year contract Tuesday, March 26. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Fantasy Tip: The addition of Campbell likely signals the end of the Colt McCoy era in Cleveland, but it is doubtful he sees much of the field or makes an impact as a starter. He'll be a solid backup who is only likely to start if Brandon Weeden falters badly or suffers a long-term injury.

Fri, 15 Mar 2013 15:55:22 -0700
Free-agent QB Jason Campbell (Bears) is generating interest from the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.
Fantasy Tip: Campbell isn't a realistic fantasy option. He'd probably have the best chance for playing time in New York, where he'd compete with Mark Sanchez and David Garrard for the starting gig. If he somehow signed and won the job in New York, we wouldn't endorse him as anything more than a weak No. 3 QB.
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 11:40:56 -0700
The Cleveland Browns have expressed some interest in free-agent QB Jason Campbell (Bears), but it does not appear like an agreement is a strong possibility at this point.

Fri, 16 Nov 2012 17:56:22 -0800
Chicago Bears QB Jason Campbell will make the start in Week 11 against the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Nov. 19, in place of the injured QB Jay Cutler (concussion). The last time Campbell started against the 49ers was in 2010 when he was a member of the Oakland Raiders. He completed just eight of his 21 pass attempts for 83 yards, two interceptions and a dismal 10.7 QB rating.
Fri, 16 Nov 2012 09:42:55 -0800
Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (concussion) is officially out for Week 11. QB Jason Campbell will start.
Fantasy Tip: Campbell faces the daunting San Francisco 49ers defense in Week 11. He has always had a good arm, but the 49ers' pass rush will likely limit his ability to throw downfield. Brandon Marshall's value takes a bit of a hit this week because of this. It's conceivable that we could see Matt Forte used heavily in the passing game, which could open up carries for Michael Bush. This potentially hurts Forte's value in non-PPR leagues, while Bush receives a slight uptick.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 04:15:59 -0800
Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler's (concussion) status for Week 11 is unknown at this point due to a concussion; however, the team has confidence in backup QB Jason Campbell to lead the team moving forward. "Jason Campbell is more than capable," WR Brandon Marshall said. "(Cutler is) our leader, he's the heart and soul of the offense. We want him to have a speedy recovery. There was no heads down when Jay was down. There was no complaining. We have a starting quarterback (Campbell) as a backup. We are fortunate to have him and there will be not drop off in our offense."
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 04:09:21 -0800
Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said following Week 10 the team has not yet ruled out QB Jay Cutler (concussion) for Week 11. "We're hopeful (that Cutler is available next week), but can't go that far," Smith said. "I just know he had symptoms, which started clearing up after the (first) half. But when a guy doesn't finish the game, you just have to go with that right now." QB Jason Campbell would start if Cutler is unable to play.
Fantasy Tip: Owners must closely monitor Cutler's status during the week. Jason Campbell provides the team a nice insurance policy at quarterback; however, for fantasy purposes, he is more of a "game manager." Look for RB Matt Forte to have an even bigger role should Campbell start, in both the run and short-passing game. Brandon Marshall may also see less targets without Cutler in the lineup. Chicago does not have a favorable Week 11 matchup as they travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers.

Wed, 06 Jun 2012 05:01:58 -0700
Chicago Bears QB Jason Campbell said he is adjusting to his new role as a backup quarterback. Campbell has been his team's starting quarterback in 70 of 71 games over seven seasons as a pro. "I've been through learning new offenses a couple times, so that part I've already adapted to," Campbell said. "I'm just trying to learn this new role, understanding that a lot of what you do is going to come from the classroom and mental reps more than physically getting reps."

Fri, 10 Feb 2012 18:31:00 -0800
Oakland Raiders QB Jason Campbell (collarbone), who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 13, might have plenty of suitors. He is not expected to return to the Raiders, and the Denver Broncos are unlikely to sign him. However, the market might be good for Campbell with fellow pending free agents New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith expected to stay where they are. "(Drew) Brees is going to re-sign. So is (Alex) Smith. There's only one (QB Peyton Manning) to go around, and just one (QB Matt Flynn) out there," one NFL executive said. "That doesn't leave a lot. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think (Campbell) will get some interest. Maybe not a ton, but he'll have some people calling."
