Tue, 21 May 2013 09:23:57 -0700 Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner has downplayed the team's signing of QB Brian Hoyer, and Turner also has praised QB Brandon Weeden for his relentless work ethic. "I think there have been more stories written about Brian Hoyer being a Brown over the last four months than probably any player in history," Turner said. "He was released. He was available. He's a guy that has been with some good teams in backup situations. He's played very little football, but I do think we like his skill set." Fantasy Tip: It's clear that Turner and the coaching staff have anointed the quarterback job as Weeden's to lose over Jason Campbell and Hoyer. Assuming Weeden doesn't fall flat on his face in training camp, expect him to be starting for Cleveland in Week 1.
Sun, 19 May 2013 18:30:23 -0700 Cleveland Browns QB Thaddeus Lewis is not expected to make the team following the signing of QB Brian Hoyer. QB Brandon Weeden is expected to be the starter, with QB Jason Campbell as the backup and Hoyer as the third QB.
Sun, 19 May 2013 10:37:12 -0700 Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell is expected to enter training camp as the favorite for the No. 2 quarterback job but will have to compete with QB Brian Hoyer for the role.
Sat, 18 May 2013 13:18:34 -0700 The Cleveland Browns are expected to take QBs Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, Brian Hoyer and Thaddeus Lewis to training camp this season.
Fri, 17 May 2013 11:37:39 -0700 Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell is clearly bigger than QB Brandon Weeden and appeared to perform better than Weeden during organized team activities Thursday, May 16. Fantasy Tip: Even though Campbell may have looked better, he has been working against the second-team defense while Weeden has been working against the starting defense. Weeden still appears to be the favorite for the starting job at this point be he will have to earn it. Weeden should be seen as a risky No. 2 fantasy quarterback at this point.
Thu, 16 May 2013 11:21:19 -0700 Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said the team likely will continue to use QB Brandon Weeden with the first-team offense and QB Jason Campbell with the second-team offense during organized team activities but it is too early to name a starting quarterback.
Thu, 16 May 2013 10:10:32 -0700 Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden opened up this week at the team's offseason team activities as the starter, with QB Jason Campbell relegated to second-team duties. It appears that the starting quarterback job will be Weeden's to lose this year. The team is hoping Weeden fits better in head coach Rob Chudzinski's aerial attack than he was in former head coach Pat Shurmur's West Coast offensive system. Fantasy Tip: It's a positive that Cleveland will look to attack through the air more often under Chudzinski, but their receiving weapons remain largely unchanged, excluding the addition of Davone Bess. Greg Little and Josh Gordon are excellent deep threats but remain mostly inconsistent and frustrating. This offense will continue to run through Trent Richardson. Weeden could be a decent backup QB option, but don't expect much more.
Tue, 07 May 2013 07:08:32 -0700 Although Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell will receive a chance to compete for the team's starting quarterback job, QB Brandon Weeden will most likely start in Week 1. The only way Weeden doesn't is if he struggles in training camp and the preseason. He has the strong arm that should mesh well in an offense run by head coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.
Fri, 03 May 2013 20:23:01 -0700 Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Jason Campbell will be given a legitimate shot to beat out QB Brandon Weeden for the starting quarterback job, according to league sources. "I've been pleased with Jason (Campbell) and the role he's taken on being there," head coach Rob Chudzinski said. "Brandon is getting the reps with the first team and working with the first group. A lot of this will remain to be seen when we get into pads and we get into real football instead of the football where you walk around in shorts on air."
Fri, 03 May 2013 06:19:17 -0700 Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said Thursday, May 2, that he is not yet ready to hand the starting quarterback job to QB Brandon Weeden, even though the team did not select a quarterback in the NFL Draft. "I feel good about where we're at right now," Chudzinski said. "He's been working with the first group and we'll just see as we go forward. We're (working) on air right now so it's very early but I do like what I've seen so far and we'll see how it goes. Right now it's too early to say anything one way or another." Weeden will compete with QB Jason Campbell for the job.
