MLB.com's Jason Beck reports the Detroit Tigers have optioned SP Alfredo Figaro and OFs Brennan Boesch, Ryan Strieby and Casper Wells to Triple-A Toledo, SS Audy Ciriaco to Double-A Erie and P Jacob Turner to Class A West Michigan. P Andrew Oliver, IF Kory Casto, SS Gustavo Nunez and C Mike Rabelo were reassigned to minor league camp.

Steve Kornacki, of Booth Newspapers, reports the Detroit Tigers issued 13 spring training invites to players Tuesday, Jan. 26. Included on the invite list were SS Gustavo Nunez, Cs Robinzon Diaz, Mike Rabelo, John Murrian, Eric Roof and Max St. Pierre, IFs Kory Casto and Jeff Larish, and Ps Cody Satterwhite, Robbie Weinhardt, Phil Dumatrait, Enrique Gonzalez and Josh Rainwater.

The Sports Network reports the Detroit Tigers signed free-agent OF Ryan Patterson (Blue Jays), 1B Jason Stokes (Athletics), 1B Cesar Nicolas, 3B Santo De Leon, OF Kory Casto (Nationals), C Max St. Pierre (Tigers), C Mike Rabelo (Marlins), C Andy Bouchie (Tigers), P Jason Waddell (Tigers), P Sam Narron (Brewers), P Macay McBride (Tigers), P Ryan Ketchner (Blue Jays) and P Josh Rainwater (Tigers) to undisclosed minor league deals Thursday, Jan. 14.

The Palm Beach Post reports Florida Marlins C Brett Hayes, who has never played in the majors, has the statistical edge as the backup catcher after batting .381 (8-for-21) in 11 games. C Mike Rabelo is hitting .278 (5-for-18) in eight games. C Brad Davis, who hasn't played in the majors, is batting .176 (3-for-17) in nine games.
