New York Giants LB Mathias Kiwanuka will take a starting position opposite Justin Tuck at defensive end while DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back) recovers from back surgery. Kiwanuka was already moving back to defensive end before the Pierre-Paul surgery. "There's no doubt in my mind," Kiwanuka said of holding down the starting spot in Pierre-Paul's absence. "That's the position I came into this league playing and I'm looking forward to the opportunity. Obviously we'd love to have him back and I'm sure he'll be back ready to go at a certain point. We're not gonna rush him back for any reason."

"Do I think about that?" Tuck asked. "Why would I? I just go out and do my job. I'm old enough to know better. You can't control it and if you try, it just gets worse."

"Say he does end up with us, hopefully that is something I can help him with," Tuck said. "And help other guys. I can move the conversation on and say, 'Listen man, he made a mistake.' Hopefully, wherever he ends up, there is a vet guy with that same mentality because the guy can play football."

New York Giants DE Justin Tuck said he was a little surprised that RB Ahmad Bradshaw, DT Chris Canty and LB Michael Boley were released last week but has faith that the front office are making the right decisions. "Those guys have done a great job over the years of building a team that can be successful, and I don't see why we can't trust in the fact that they know what they're doing up there," Tuck said. "Those decisions aren't easy decisions. I'm sure [general manager Jerry Reese] and everyone up there had some tough times and some tough conversations about them, but they felt as though it needed to happen, and they went forward with it."

New York Giants DE Justin Tuck said the team has been too confident and borderline cocky this season, even during their two-game losing streak. As a result, Tuck feels the team has lost some focus. "I think everybody on this team feels that we can be the best team in the league when we're playing our style of football," Tuck said. "We have to find a way to get back to playing (better) because it's going to be needed leading up to these next weeks ... But confidence, naw, I think we've always been very confident, sometimes maybe too confident - borderline cocky a little bit. But our confidence will never be ... I don't think it will ever waver on this team."

New York Giants DL Justin Tuck has gone to bat for DL Osi Umenyiora by saying he feels the team should award Umenyiora a new contract. "It's hard," Tuck said. "He's signed a contract and I believe in abiding by that contract, but also I think he's outplayed that contract in today's market. And how some of these defensive ends are getting paid lots of money, I think he deserves to get paid." Umenyiora is unhappy with his current contract. He is set to make just under $4 million in the final season of the seven-year, $41-million contract he signed in 2005.

Coughlin is sending a message to his team that nothing will stand in the way of his doing everything he can to beat the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17. "We are all all-in," DL Justin Tuck said Tuesday, Dec. 27. "And Coach Coughlin is the same as all of us. I know that knee, that leg is banged up a little bit. But he isn't showing any ill effects. (Coughlin) came in excited about the opportunity this week. That's 65 years of wisdom I guess. He knows how to push the right buttons at the right time."
