ProFootballHof.com reports Fritz Pollard has been elected to the 2005 Pro Football Hall of Fame. Pollard earned distinction as being the first African American head coach in the NFL in 1921. Formal enshrinement ceremonies will be held in Canton Sunday, August 7, 2005.

The Associated Press reports former head coach Fritz Pollard is among 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Pollard, who played in the 1920s, was also the first African American to coach an NFL team.
