New York Mets C Rob Johnson originally was slated to start at catcher Saturday, May 12, but pitching coach Dan Warthen suggested Mike Nickeas instead because of his familiarity with SP R.A. Dickey's knuckleball. Johnson instead will start Sunday, May 13, with SP Jonathon Niese on the mound.

New York Mets OF Lucas Duda is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 5, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. OF Andres Torres will bat leadoff and play center field, with OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis playing right field and batting seventh. C Mike Nickeas will catch and bat eighth.

The New York Mets have agreed to terms with Ps Pedro Beato, Robert Carson, Jeurys Familia, Dillon Gee, Jeremy Hefner, Daniel Herrera, Jenrry Mejia, Jonathon Niese, Bobby Parnell, Armando Rodriguez, Chris Schwinden and Josh Stinson, Cs Mike Nickeas and Josh Thole, INFs Ike Davis, Wilmer Flores, Reese Havens, Zach Lutz, Daniel Murphy, Josh Satin, Ruben Tejada, Justin Turner and Jordany Valdespin and OFs Lucas Duda, Juan Lagares, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Cesar Puello on one-year contracts.

The New York Mets will not be signing free-agent C Ivan Rodriguez (Nationals) because they are more than comfortable going with Cs Mike Nickeas or Rob Johnson as their backup.
