Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he is looking forward to working with offensive coordinator Ron Turner and has no problems with Turner despite a reported rift between the two because Turner pulled back a scholarship from Cutler when he was the coach at University of Illinois. "I think it's going to be great. I talked to him [Thursday], we talked about the offensive possibilities for a good 15, 20 minutes. We have a lot of weapons. That makes it fun. You can do a lot of different things. [The reported rift] was too long ago. I think it's kind of funny now at this point I'm back here, he's here. Things happen for a reason. I'm lucky to be here. I'm excited to be able to work with Ron," Cutler said.

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears QB Rex Grossman offered high praise to offensive coordinator Ron Turner for his role during Grossman's first full season as a starting quarterback. "Ron Turner has done a ton for me," Grossman said. "He's brought in an offense that suits what I do best. He gives me a lot of chances to push the ball down the field as well as (run) a controlled passing game with intermediate throws and also some short throws in there. He gets me into a rhythm, and that's when I'm playing my best. We run the ball well, get some play-action, get some short passes, get some rhythm and then, bam, hit them with a long one. He just keeps mixing the play calls up. He's an excellent play-caller and a great offensive leader."

Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports when training camp starts Wednesday, July 26, Chicago Bears QB Rex Grossman and offensive coordinator Ron Turner are brashly optimistic their partnership is about to blossom. Turner saw signs during Grossman's offseason work on the field and in the classroom. "Last year at this time, I could call a play and I could see him thinking about everything, `This guy is here, that guy is there, we're in this protection,''' Turner said recently. "Now that is starting to come naturally. He knows where guys are. He knows the protection schemes. He knows how we're trying to attack the defense." Beyond the annual injury questions, Grossman also must deal with the arrival of QB Brian Griese, far and away his most bona fide backup. That's because Griese actually is a starter. Grossman isn't worried, for reasons that stretch beyond his comfort with Turner's system. "I'm not trying to be the best quarterback on my team," Grossman said. "I'm trying to be the best quarterback in the league." That Turner sounds prepared to expand the playbook, while acknowledging last year's limitations with QB Kyle Orton, has to please Grossman.

"Ron is a class act," Phillips said. "He brings to us not just proven NFL coordinator experience, but he's a proven leader. "It's a pretty standard West Coast offense," Grossman said. "Not that last year's offense didn't make sense, it just was new stuff that I wasn't used to. There's a lot of smart play-action and getting the ball down the field in creative ways." Grossman currently spends about 90 minutes each afternoon studying the offense with Turner and quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson.

"The key to making an offense work at any level is having a plan and executing what you're doing and that's something that we're going to do," Turner said. "I think it starts with the running game. No matter what level you're talking about, but probably especially at this level, you've got to run the football." The main beneficiary of the run-oriented attack figures to be RB Thomas Jones, who rushed for 948 yards and seven touchdowns on 240 carries in his first season with the team.

Updating previous reports, Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports new Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner is believed to have agreed to a three-year, $1.5 million deal. The Bears are expected to make Turner's hiring official during a press conference Monday, Jan. 10.
