Packers | Mike McCarthy would rest Aaron Rodgers again

Thu, 29 Mar 2012 07:38:29 -0700

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said if he had to do it all over again, he'd still rest QB Aaron Rodgers in the meaningless Week 17 finale against the Detroit Lions with homefield advantage wrapped up. Some critics believe rust was the reason the Packers lost to the New York Giants in the NFC divisional playoffs. "As far as sitting players, I wouldn't change that at all," McCarthy said. "A fresh team is the best team because you can accomplish the things you need to accomplish leading up to that game if you go about it the right way."

However, New England Patriots OG Logan Mankins said he doubts there's a realistic way to ramp up competitiveness. "I don't know how you fix it," Mankins said. "You're going to give a little effort, but you're not going to get out of control. Some guys are free agents over there. You get hurt in a Pro Bowl and it's going to affect that contract with another team. Who would want to get hurt in a Pro Bowl and not be able to play the next season?"

Packers | Aaron Rodgers to sit

Sun, 01 Jan 2012 08:45:34 -0800

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is inactive for Week 17. Matt Flynn will start in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Time to put your backup in. Flynn has proven capable of running this offense when he has gotten the chance, so the downgrade for the Pack receiving options isn't drastic. Flynn is a solid pickup for those losing A-Rod, but, Green Bay might rest their other big players, including Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley (knee), because this game is meaningless for the Pack.
