Texans | Moats starting to step up
Fri, 29 May 2009 10:36:44 -0700

Brooke Bentley, of HoustonTexans.com, reports Houston Texans RB Ryan Moats has been getting the job done working as the No. 2 back during practice and rotating with RB Chris Brown in the spot. Head coach Gary Kubiak has called Moats and Brown his "2a and 2b" backup running backs. Moats has been getting the edge in the competition because he has shown tremendous speed during OTAs and played last season. Moats, at 5-8 and 210 pounds, doesn't have great size and doesn't fit the big-back prototype the Texans have wanted in short-yardage situations. Moats, however, believes he can accomplish the job through his running style.

Texans | Moats accepts officer's apology
Mon, 30 Mar 2009 05:39:31 -0700

ESPN.com reports Houston Texans RB Ryan Moats and his wife say they are ready to move past an incident in which a Dallas police officer held the player outside a hospital as his mother-in-law died inside. "Well, first of all I accept his apology, and I hope it's sincere - a sincere apology," Moats said on ABC's "Good Morning America" Monday, March 30. "I've kind of left it up to my wife because I love Jo, my mother-in-law. ... She was just like my mom. And so I wanted to leave that up to (Tamishia) if she wanted to hear that from him." Officer Robert Powell, 25, issued a statement Saturday, March 28, through his lawyers expressing regret for the incident. "Actually, it would be comforting if we heard an apology directly from him," Tamishia Moats said. "But up to this point we have not received a personal call from him, directly. Maybe he has tried to reach out and we just perhaps missed his call. We definitely would accept his apology because, you know, he's a human being so we would, definitely."

NFL | Same Dallas officer detained Z. Thomas' wife
Sun, 29 Mar 2009 12:21:45 -0700

Todd Archer, of The Dallas Morning News, reports free-agent LB Zach Thomas' (Cowboys) wife, Maritza Thomas, was pulled over by Dallas police officer Robert Powell July 27, 2008, issued five tickets and detained for roughly five hours after she made an illegal U-turn. The charges of failure to show proof of insurance, running a red light, having an improper address and not having a registrations sticker on the windshield were later dismissed. Powell was the same officer who recently detained Houston Texans RB Ryan Moats as he and his family rushed to a hospital to see a dying loved one. Zach Thomas said, "This in no way compares to what happened to Ryan Moats and his family. But we wanted to tell our story, not knowing how many others have been affected by Officer Powell. We know the vast majority of the Dallas police force are good and professional people, but this guy just seems excessive."
