The Carolina Panthers have not decided which linebacker position LB Luke Kuechly will be playing this season because of the injuries to LBs Jon Beason (Achilles') and LB Thomas Davis (knee). The team may decide to use Kuechly at middle linebacker and move Beason to outside linebacker.

The Carolina Panthers will have a competition at linebacker after selecting Luke Kuechly from Boston College in the first round. Middle linebacker is his specialty, but that spot has been held down by Jon Beason (Achilles'), who is returning from injury. It's tough to see Kuechly sitting. LBs Thomas Davis (knee) and James Anderson hold down the other two backer spots; Davis is coming off yet another devastating knee injury and Anderson set a single-season record for tackles with the team last year.

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (knee) said he feels good and he has been running. He expects to be on the field for the start of training camp. Davis tore his ACL in his right knee during the 2010 season and has torn it twice since; he played in just two games last year. Returning to form from multiple devastating injuries to the same knee may be difficult.

Panthers | Thomas Davis restructures contract

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis has agreed to restructure his contract in order for the team to save $3.8 million in salary cap space. He will not receive the $8 million option bonus he was due this offseason and his 2012 base salary has gone from $2.25 million to $700,000. He has a $500,000 bonus due next offseason and a $2.5 million bonus in 2014. His base salary in 2015 will be $7.25 million if he is still on the team and his base salary will increase each of the next three seasons.

Panthers | Could release then re-sign Thomas Davis

The Carolina Panthers may consider releasing LB Thomas Davis then re-sign him later so they can avoid paying him an $8 million option he is owed March 14. The team could also try to restructure his contract before the option is due.

Panthers | Thomas Davis hoping to make history

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (knee) is hoping to be the first player in the NFL to continue his playing career after undergoing three anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgeries on the same knee. Davis said Dr. James Andrews told him his knee is solid as a rock.
