Buffalo Bills DLs Shawne Merriman and Kyle Moore might see increased defensive snaps in Week 10 against the New England Patriots if DL Chris Kelsay (neck) is unable to play. Moore played 28 snaps in Week 9 against the Houston Texans, while Merriman saw just eight snaps. Head coach Chan Gailey said Saturday, Nov. 10, that Merriman would be in a rotation Sunday, Nov. 11.

Although Buffalo Bills DE Shawne Merriman said he is better suited to play linebacker in a 4-3 scheme, he will play defensive end for the team. "Of course I've played linebacker my entire life, but when you're a football player you're a football player, you can put your hand in the dirt, you can stand up," Merriman said. "Obviously these guys, if they didn't think I could play, they wouldn't have brought me back. I'm happy to not only contribute, but just pick up where I left off and do what they need me to do."

He is returning from Achilles' surgery, and is still seeking final medical clearance. Battling an Achilles' problem since 2009, Merriman shut his 2011 season down after just five games. It was decided that surgery would be needed. "Obviously I was disappointed because I didn't finish the season and I wasn't out there helping the guys on the field," Merriman said. "I feel great now. Obviously I'm still in a bit of rehab process with slight limitations. For the most part though, I feel great."

"After much consideration and unanimous professional recommendations stating that my Achilles' is in danger of rupturing, I have been advised that it would be in my best interest to undergo surgery as soon as possible in order to prevent a major injury."
