The Cincinnati Bengals announced the NFL has granted the team a one-week roster exemption for WR Chris Henry, who has completed a four-game league suspension. Henry will be able to participate in all team activities until Monday, Oct. 6, without counting against the team's roster limit. The team would need to open a spot on the 53-player roster for Henry to play Week 5.

The Associated Press reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry, who was recently brought back on board by the team, did not play during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 23, against the New Orleans Saints. There were banners expressing frustration with the team's decision to re-sign him in the crowd. However, some of the negative ones were taken down before the end of the first quarter.

Mark Curnutte, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said owner Mike Brown wanted to give WR Chris Henry another opportunity. "I know at the end of the day the owner (Mike Brown) has the final say so whether or not he wants to give a guy an opportunity. Mike has wanted to give Chris this opportunity, and asked we do the best job we can to prepare him and get him ready to play football, and if he can be a positive influence on this football team and help us win football games and be productive as a receiver, and get better as a receiver, and we feel that way after the suspension is over that he has a chance to win a spot. That's what he asked me to do, and that's what we're going to do," Lewis said.

Henry is en route to Cincinnati to sign a contract with the team as early as Tuesday, Aug. 19, according to a source.
