NFL | Seahawks guilty of 'excessive workouts'

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 11:25:31 -0700

The Seattle Seahawks were fined $400,000 and will forfeit a fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft for violating the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement and the rules that prohibit excessive contact in all offseason workouts. Head coach Pete Carroll was also fined $200,000 and the team will lose a week of organized team activities as well. The Seahawks committed a similar violation two years ago.

Seahawks | Jimmy Graham expected to play more Week 2

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 14:37:16 -0700

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) is "ready to play in all situations (Week 2 versus the Los Angeles Rams)", according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Fantasy Tip: Graham was limited to 17 snaps in the opener and should be expected to see only a modest increase on that versus the Rams. Seattle is going to take its time with working him back into a full-time role if only to avoid the complications that typically come along with torn patellar tendons. Until he sees a full complement of snaps, owners should view Graham as a TE2.

Seahawks | Thomas Rawls in line for more work

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 10:49:57 -0700

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls is "ready to increase his workload", according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Fantasy Tip: Christine Michael was easily the more productive and efficient runner (15 carries for 66 yards in Week 1) and played 30 more snaps (52-22), but it appears Rawls (12 for 32) showed Carroll enough to at least challenge for more of an even split this week versus the Los Angeles Rams. Both backs should be considered low-end RB2s at best until one clearly emerges as the leader of the committee.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson's ankle injury not serious

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 10:13:09 -0700

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle in a week one win over the Miami Dolphins, but head coach Pete Carroll said it was "nothing very serious".

Fantasy Tip: Wilson has yet to miss the start in his five NFL seasons, so it seems unlikely this ailment will keep him from suiting up in Week 2 after NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning his availability against the Los Angeles Rams was in question. Given how well the Rams usually play the Seahawks and the fact could be less than 100 percent, consider Wilson a low-end QB1 in this matchup.

Seahawks | Thomas Rawls on track to start Week 1

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 16:38:43 -0700

Updating a previous story, Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) "looks really good" and the general consensus is that he'll be ready for Week 1. "I think the signs are very positive that he's going to be ready in a couple weeks to play. Right now, we just want to see him come back day after day and keep battling, really digging in like he does and competing like he does, just to show that he's all right. He's doing everything right so we're really happy with him," head coach Pete Carroll told reporters.

Fantasy Tip: The previous report was relatively vague in regards to Rawls' return, but this report suggests he's much more likely than not to lead the Seahawks' backfield against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. Christine Michael figures to remain in the mix and could possible receive possibly a third of the carries plus some third-down work, but Rawls appears to have a firm grasp on the early-down role. He's still a high-risk, high-reward RB2, however.

Seahawks | Thomas Rawls to return in two weeks?

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 15:52:47 -0700

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) should return "in a couple weeks", according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Fantasy Tip: Christine Michael's emergence has likely emboldened the Seattle coaching staff to be as conservative as possible with Rawls' return. Carroll's optimism suggests Rawls will be ready for at least part-time work in Week 1, although that is far from a given. For now, owners need to treat Rawls like a high-risk, high-reward RB2 who may begin the season inactive or sharing carries with Michael.

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 14:28:41 -0700

Seahawks | Thomas Rawls lands on PUP list

Sat, 30 Jul 2016 13:00:51 -0700

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, July 30. Head coach Pete Carroll, who told reporters Rawls is in "great shape" and "has not had any setbacks", also said he will reevaluate his second-year player's status in four-day segments.

Fantasy Tip: Jimmy Graham joined Rawls on PUP on Saturday, and it appears both players will be monitored similarly. Rawls will be atop the depth chart when he is cleared, but it appears he'll enter the season as a two-down back since rookie C.J. Prosise has been handpicked to be the primary third-down back. The 2015 undrafted rookie free agent will have to start out strong if hopes to hold off Prosise and fifth-rounder Alex Collins. At the moment, Rawls should be considered a high-risk, high-upside RB2.
