The Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings rookie QB Shaun Hill is continuing his strong bid to unseat QB Spergon Wynn as the team's No. 3 QB. "I think Shaun is doing a good job," coach Mike Tice said. "My concern was whether or not he could throw the deep ball. He has shown me that he can. He had two nice throws [Monday] down the field. And when you look at the chart of explosive throws by the quarterback position, he is starting to get some of those throws."

As expected, Spergon Wynn will get the starting nod at quarterback tonight for the Minnesota Vikings. FB Harold Morrow will replace inactive Jim Kleinsasser in the starting lineup for the Minnesota Vikings in Monday night's game against Baltimore. The team will start Jim Nelson at linebacker in place of Ed McDaniel.

Confirming an earlier story, the Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings coach Dennis Green said today QB Spergon Wynn will be the starting quarterback for the team Monday night. Todd Bouman, who replaced the injured Daunte Culpepper five weeks ago, is still sidelined with a sprained thumb on his passing hand. There is a chance Bouman could be the No. 2 QB.

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press the Minnesota Vikings plan to put OL David Dixon and Corbin Lacina back in the starting lineup this week. Dixon was benched in favor of Everett Lindsay, and Calvin Collins played in front of Lacina against the Packers last week. Lindsay is expected to be the backup at every position this week, and Collins likely will spell Lacina. FS Orlando Thomas and RCB Robert Tate are scheduled to start again. Thomas (death in family) missed practice today, but he should be back tomorrow. Eric Kelly could see a lot of action at left corner if Dale Carter (hamstring) can't play. Jim Nelson is expected to start at weakside linebacker and Andre O'Neal is set to start at strongside linebacker. QB Spergon Wynn is also slated to start.

Andres Ybarra reports for the Associated Press Minnesota Vikings coach Dennis Green said he expects QB Spergon Wynn to play again Monday night against Baltimore in the Vikings season finale since. QB Todd Bouman's injured right thumb still hasn't shown much improvement leaving him doubtful to play. Bouman said he'll see how he feels in practice this week before the team decides on a starter against the Ravens. "By the end of the week, it should be ready to go, but you just really never know," Bouman said. Green wasn't as optimistic about Bouman's chances to play.

Mike Wells reports for the Pioneer Press Minnesota Vikings QB Spergon Wynn classified his performance today as, "Very, very poor." "Three turnovers, there's no way you can overcome that in this kind of game," said Wynn. The young QB struggled all day getting the ball to his receivers. Wynn completed only 11 of 30 passes for 114 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. In the first half, he completed only 1 of 10 passes for three yards. He did throw the first TD pass of his career, a 47-yard pass to TE Byron Chamberlain over the middle.

Jon Krawczynski reports for the Associated Press that Minnesota Vikings QB Todd Bouman (sprained thumb) was only able to take a few snaps Thursday but didn't appear to meet head coach Dennis Green's "full strength" criteria for him to start this weekend. Coaches didn't discuss the issue after practice Thursday, but it appears QB Spergon Wynn is likely to start this weekend's game. Wynn took more snaps than Bouman during the regular practice. Bouman said he'll have to see how it goes following practice.

Minnesota Vikings coach Dennis Green addressed the media before today's practice. QB Todd Bouman (thumb) did not work at the team's morning walk-through and Green still put him in the questionable category. Green said QB Spergon Wynn looked good in practice yesterday and he looked good today in the walk-through. Green was stil uncertain if Bouman would practice today, calling it 50-50. He closed by saying QB Daunte Culpepper (knee surgery) would be very doubtful to play in the team's last game.

Vikings.com reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Dennis Green said QB Todd Bouman (thumb) is doing better than he was earlier this week. Green said he hopes Bouman will be able to practice. The team wanted him to practice a little bit on Wednesday, doing some light throwing. On Thursday, they want him to go at full-speed. "If he can do that then of course he would start for us," Green said. Green plans to make a decision on his starter on Thursday. If Bouman can't go full-speed, Spergon Wynn would likely get the starting nod.

Green believes Bouman will be able to do more on Thursday than he was a week ago and he just needs to focus on getting treatment on the thumb now. If Bouman cannot play, QB Spergon Wynn would get the starting nod.

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Todd Bouman took a few snaps Thursday after sitting out Wednesday with a sprained thumb ligament on his passing hand. He remains probable for Sunday. After taking a few snaps, he sat out and Spergon Wynn and newly acquired Romaro Miller rotated passes. "He looked fine," Wynn said of Bouman. "He had a good spiral, he just didn't want to rush it."

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press the Minnesota Vikings face a tough task this week - contain New Orleans Saints QB Aaron Brooks. He's the most mobile QB the team has faced all year, having faced Chris Weinke of Carolina, Jim Miller and Shane Matthews of Chicago and Brad Johnson of Tampa Bay the first three weeks. Brooks is one of the fastest, most athletic quarterbacks in the league. "The challenge is basically for us to have some good conditioning this week," LB Ed McDaniel said. Brooks is both mobile and has a cannon arm. Brooks also mixes in his running skills to help his passing. Backup Vikings QBs Todd Bouman and Spergon Wynn are playing Brooks on the team's scout team this week.

The Associated Press reports the Minnesota Vikings see newly acquired RB Travis Prentice as a third-down back because of his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He also could play on special teams. He is now third on the depth chart, behind rookie and probable starter Michael Bennett and Doug Chapman. Prentice is happy. "It's a great opportunity to be on a winning team," Prentice said. "I'm just optimistic. Now I'm on a team that's experienced at winning. Last year with the Browns, a team that's losing, players getting hurt... Now with the Vikings I'm just ready to come here and contribute as much as I can." QB Spergon Wynn will be the Vikings third-string QB behind starter Daunte Culpepper and backup Todd Bouman.

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns rookie WR Andre King returned a kickoff 90-yards for a TD during tonight's pre-season loss. The Browns did not play backup Ty Detmer, who team president Carmen Policy admitted Thursday could be traded for the right price. With Detmer sidelined, Spergon Wynn played the entire second half. Starting QB Tim Couch was a sharp 7-for-9 for 95 and he threw an 11-yard TD pass to RB Jamel White. Backup QB Kelly Holcomb was 7-for-13 for 85 yards.

Panthers | 23-20 Winners

Pat Yasinskas reports for the Charlotte Observer the Carolina Panthers defeated the Cleveland Browns 23-20 Friday night. Rookie QB Chris Weinke completed 11-of-18 passes for 109 yards with one interception in one half of action. Reserve S Damien Richardson also got in on the action by picking off QB Spergon Wynn's pass at Carolina's 10-yard line with 14 seconds left to preserve the victory. Two players battling for roster spots had good games. QB Matt Lytle completed 5-of-8 passes for 115 yards. WR Dialleo Burks caught four passes for 111 yards. Lytle's 51-yard touchdown pass to Burks clinched the victory. Rookie Steve Smith had a 101-yard kickoff return for a Panthers TD.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Cleveland Browns backup QB Spergon Wynn looks to be in mid-season form. Rookie WRs Quincy Morgan and JuJuan Dawson had trouble catching Wynn’s bullet spirals and both dropped several balls.

The Plain Dealer's Tony Grossi reports the Cleveland Browns are happy with their depth chart at QB. Tim Couch is the sold starter and he's backed up by Ty Detmer and Kelly Holcomb. Spergon Wynn and Kevin Thompson remain on the roster and are in NFL Europe currently. Earlier this off-season team's had tried to trade for Detme, but now it looks as though he will stay put. "He is definitely not trade bait for just something. He's too good," coach Butch Davis said of Detmer.

The Canton Repository reports the release of QB Doug Pederson yesterday leaves Ty Detmer as the team's No. 2 QB and Spergon Wynn and Kevin Thompson to compete for the No. 3 job. Director of Football Operations Dwight Clark recently said, "We need defensive tackles ... plural," which could mean the team may potentially pursue DT Ted Washington, just released in Buffalo. The team needs run stoppers and the 2000 Buffalo media guide called Washington "perhaps the best run-stopping defensive lineman in the game."

ClevelandBrowns.com reports Cleveland Browns rookie QB Spergon Wynn (knee), who was the No. 3 QB early this year but started last week, underwent an MRI on Wednesday that showed a slight bone bruise and he may now be done for the year. Kevin Thompson, the team's current No. 3 QB, twisted his ankle and may not be able to play this weekend after sitting out Thursday's practice. Doug Pederson, as reported here, is expected to start this weekend. WR Kevin Johnson worked as the scout team quarterback but said he thinks Pederson gives the team the best chance to win. The team hopes to add another quarterback.

ClevelandBrowns.com reports DE Courtney Brown (right calf), DE Keith McKenzie (right shoulder), RB Travis Prentice (shoulder), QB Spergon Wynn (knee), C Dave Wohlabaugh (ankle) and RB Jamel White (shoulder) should all be able to practice this week and play this weekend. Prentice and Wynn underwent X-rays, which were negative. McKenzie is questionable for Wednesday's practice while Wohlabaugh was able to do some running on Monday.

The Canton Repository reports Cleveland Browns QB Spergon Wynn, who got his first NFL start on Sunday, has to leave the game with 8:19 remaining in the first half due to a sprained left knee. QB Doug Pederson replaced him but Wynn returned in the third quarter. The Browns managed only 53-yards against the Jaguars on Sunday.
