Packers | Culpepper would consider backup role with team Fri, 29 Aug 2008 09:36:10 -0700 The Associated Press reports free-agent QB Daunte Culpepper (Raiders) said Thursday, Aug. 28, he would be interested in joining the Green Bay Packers as a backup to QB Aaron Rodgers. "I have not heard from the Packers since before the draft," Culpepper said in an e-mail response. "My ears are definitely opened to listen if they need a proven backup for Aaron." Culpepper remains committed to joining a team this season but has not received the response he is looking for. "I am talking," Culpepper said. "I am just not convinced that the teams are listening."

This situation could change in a few weeks if the Lions are not satisfied with their backup quarterback in training camp. The team is moving forward with the plan to have young quarterbacks at the helm. However, having a solid backup quarterback behind QB Jon Kitna is a priority.

"It just wasn't good for either side," said Culpepper, who declined to elaborate further. Culpepper did say he would like to be a starter this season, but stopped short of saying he was holding out for that opportunity. "I hope that, you know, that's what I want, in a perfect world. But we'll see what happens," Culpepper said. "I'm just waiting for the right situation for me. I'm in talks with a couple of different teams right now."
