Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns P Kyle Richardson will be allowed to test the free-agent market as an unrestricted free agent. General manager Phil Savage said the team has not ruled out re-signing Richardson at a future date.

Browns | Richardson Named AFC Special Teams Player for Week 9

Cleveland Browns P Kyle Richardson was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 9. Richardson had five punts for 203 yards and averaged 40.6 yards per punt during the 20-14 win against the Tennessee Titans Sunday, Nov. 6. Richardson also had three punts inside the 20-yard line.

Browns | Team Could Tryout New Punters

Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports the Cleveland Browns might bring in some punters for a tryout this week, according to head coach Romeo Crennel. P Kyle Richardson had a bad game during Week 8, kicking one punt for ten yards and another for only 19 yards.

Patrick McManamon, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel said P Kyle Richardson won the punting job over P Derrick Frost because Richardson was more consistent. Richardson said he's had his best training camp. He said missing last season because of injury brought him to Cleveland rested and stronger.

Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel says the battle for the punting job is dead even between incumbent P Derrick Frost and newly-signed veteran P Kyle Richardson. Crennel said he'll flip a coin to decide whether Frost or Richardson will punt first during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 13. He said the loser of the coin flip will start the game as the holder for field goals and PAT's.

Jeff Walcoff, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns P Kyle Richardson boomed several punts over the returners' heads during practice Sunday, July 31. One appeared to travel more than 70 yards. "You'd have to be blind not to notice that punt," head coach Romeo Crennel said. "He hit it very nicely."

Steve Doerschuk, of the Canton Repository, reports Cleveland Browns P Derrick Frost will have his work cut out for him if he wants to hold onto his job in 2005. Free agent P Kyle Richardson is likely to take the job away from him and the Browns like his abilities, especially since they feel they'll need to rely on the punting game while the rest of the team gets up and running.
