The Newark Star-Ledger's Don Burke reports New York Mets CL Braden Looper was surprised when MAN Willie Randolph used RP Dae-Sung Koo in Looper's traditional ninth-inning role, but Looper trusted his manager. "Willie's the manager. I've got to do what he says," said Looper, who has converted nine consecutive save chances. "All I can say is, I want the ball when the game is on the line. But I'm not the guy who makes those decisions."

Updating previous items, Ronald Blum, of the Associated Press, reports the one-year deal signed by South Korean P Dae-sung Koo with the New York Mets will pay him $400,000 if he makes the big league roster. Additionally, he could earn about $700,000 more in performance bonuses.

USAToday.com reports the New York Mets signed P Dae-sung Koo (Japanese League) to a one-year contract with a team option for 2006. Koo, 35, was a member of South Korea's bronze medal-winning team at the Sydney Olympics and went 6-10 with a 4.32 ERA and 99 strikeouts last season for the Orix BlueWave of Japan's Pacific League's BlueWave with a 4.32 ERA and 99 strikeouts.
