Vikings.com reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said OG Chris Liwienski (shoulder) has been moved back to left guard where he will take over as the starter. Tice said Liwienski is 100 percent recovered from his shoulder injury. Tice added Liwienski's shoulder was sprained, not separated. He was able to practice Monday, Aug. 22, and he should be able to practice all week.

ChicagoBears.com reports nine Minnesota Vikings' players have been fined by the NFL for their roles in a scuffle during a game against the Chicago Bears Sunday, Sept. 26. The following players were fined $2,500 each: C Cory Withrow, TE Sean Berton, QB Daunte Culpepper, WR Keenan Howry, OG Chris Liwienski and OT Bryant McKinnie. In addition, WR Randy Moss was fined $5,000, WR Nate Burleson $7,500 and RB Onterrio Smith was fined $1,000.

Liwienski said the injury surfaced toward the end of last season, then resurfaced during minicamp in May. "It feels super," Liwienski said. "I feel 100 percent."

The Star Tribune's Kevin Seifert reports the Minnesota Vikings have inserted OL Lewis Kelly into their starting lineup heading into training camp. He's the current starter at right tackle. The move allows incumbent Chris Liwienski to return to his more natural position of left guard. "If [Kelly] can do the job, he's going to get the job," coach Mike Tice said Tuesday. "That is what I'd like to see us start the [season-opening] Chicago game with."

Updating earlier stories, the Star Tribune reports the Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement with OL Chris Liwienski on a seven-year contract. Last season he stepped in at right tackle after Korey Stringer's training camp death, starting all 16 games. The seven-year deal is believed to be worth in excess of $11 million, with escalator clauses that could increase its total value in later years. It includes a $2.1 million signing bonus, half to be paid this season. The contract takes into account he may move to guard sometime down the road. ""We did a good deal," Liwienski said. "And we did a good deal for Chris Liwienski. Not Chris Liwienski the guard or Chris Liwienski the tackle."

The Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings OL Chris Liwienski said he hopes his contract extension will be completed within a couple of days. It is possible the deal could be a seven-year extension. OL Everett Lindsay has agreed to a new deal that is more cap-friendly for the Vikings. No terms were released. The team has asked P Mitch Berger to rework his contract and they plan to ask OL Brad Badger to do the same thing.

As an update to a story from last Friday, the Star Tribune reports the Minnesota Vikings are closing in on a contract extension for OT Chris Liwienski. The deal could be completed as early as this week, however, one sticking point reportedly is uncertainty over whether his long-term position is right tackle, where he played last season, or guard. That decision will not be made until after the April NFL Draft.
