Orioles | Yovani Gallardo not close to return

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 17:09:52 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo (bicep, shoulder) has not resumed throwing and no timetable exists for his return from the disabled list, according to manager Buck Showalter. However, he is pain-free and doing cuff exercises.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo has gotten off to a slow start with the O's, going 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA through his first four starts, with 23 hits allowed over 18 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander is not worth stashing outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Orioles | Tendonitis for Yovani Gallardo

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 11:27:49 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo (bicep, shoulder) is just dealing with tendonitis after an MRI exam didn't show anything. The Orioles are encouraged, and Gallardo will likely receive an injection and rest.

Fantasy Tip: That's good news for Gallardo and his owners. It'll be his first stay on the DL in his career. He has started out with a 7.00 ERA in four starts for the O's this year, and Gallardo has allowed at least four earned runs in his last three starts. In standard mixed leagues, you may want to drop Gallardo in favor of healthier and more productive arms.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo out four weeks

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 04:48:48 -0700

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo (bicep, shoulder) is expected to be sidelined for roughly four weeks due to shoulder issues and biceps tendinitis, the first time in his 10-year career Gallardo has gone on the DL due to arm-related issues.

Fantasy Tip: In previous tips, it has been suggested Vance Worley may be stretched out for the rotation until Gallardo returns, so keep an eye on his progress. If you can stash Gallardo, do so.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo undergoes second MRI

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 22:23:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo (shoulder) had a second MRI Sunday, April 24, on his shoulder and it did not reveal any changes from the original MRI given by the club back in February, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo is already on the 15-day disabled list and should be avoided in all fantasy play until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks. Vance Worley might be stretched out to move into Gallardo's rotation spot.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo to DL

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:50:34 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo (shoulder, biceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 23, with right shoulder biceps tendonitis. RP Brian Matusz (back, ribs) was activated from the disabled list. RP Vance Worley could be stretched out to start when Gallardo's turn comes around.

Fantasy Tip: Matusz has fringe mixed league value for ratios. Worley would be an AL-only option if they insert him into the rotation. For Gallardo owners, it could be a two-to-four-week absence depending on how the shoulder responds to rest and rehab. Stash him if you have the space.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo has uneventful outing

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 15:19:11 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo picked up a no-decision Monday, April 11, opposite the Boston Red Sox. He went five innings, yielding five runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out three.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo looked solid in his Orioles debut last week, but was in a tough spot here, taking on an extra motivated Red Sox team on the road in the final home opener for David Ortiz. Thus, owners might want to give the veteran right-hander a mulligan on this and hope he bounces back his next time out.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo earns win Wednesday

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 19:18:08 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo (1-0) allowed one run on two hits over five innings in a victory over the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, April 6, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo rebounded from a rough spring training camp to shut down the Twins in his first regular-season outing. However, his decreased velocity, along with the fact he's pitching in the hitter-friendly AL East, indicate that he's unlikely to be a great fantasy option this year.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo good against AL Central

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 11:25:23 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo is 6-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 16 career starts against the American League Central, with 10 quality starts. He was 3-0 with a 1.03 ERA in six starts against the division last year.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo faces the Twins in his Baltimore debut, but Minnesota is no pushover these days, and he'll face them in hitter-friendly Camden Yards. Gallardo's skills are trending downward, and with decreased velocity, don't expect an ERA under 4.00 this year.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo continues to struggle

Sat, 26 Mar 2016 15:45:47 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo was roughed up for seven runs and eight hits over 3 2/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, March 26.

Fantasy Tip: For those that are keeping track, that is 15 runs allowed in eight innings of work across three starts, good for a 16.88 ERA. Owners need to cut him some slack as a result of his late signing and should expect better results as he continues to get his arm ready, but it is hard to see him being much of an asset in mixed leagues this season.
