Rangers | Texas fine with keeping Yovani Gallardo

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 14:41:45 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo is a potential trade candidate, but the Rangers are telling teams that they are fine with keeping him if they don't receive an offer that they like.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has had a fine season with Texas, but he's allowed five runs in each of his last two starts to raise his ERA on the year to 3.19. He's due for regression in the second half, so pick and choose your matchups with him on FantasyScore. A move out of Texas wouldn't be a bad thing for his fantasy value for the remainder of the year.

Rangers | TEX open to dealing Yovani Gallardo

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 21:22:01 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo could still be traded, and the team is open to the idea even after acquiring SP Cole Hamels, a source said Wednesday, July 29. Gallardo is tentatively scheduled to start Thursday, July 30, against the New York Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players likely want to avoid Gallardo ($6,800, 13.6% of cap), as he could be a late scratch.

Blue Jays | Toronto looking for starting pitching

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:56:45 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo, Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake, San Diego Padres SPs Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross, Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers, Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren and Detroit Tigers SP David Price are all on the radar of the Toronto Blue Jays as the trade deadline approaches.

Fantasy Tip: All of these names would be significant upgrades to the Blue Jays' current staff. However, for some, a move to hitter-friendly Toronto would be a downgrade to their fantasy value.

Dodgers | LA interested in Yovani Gallardo, Mike Leake?

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 10:16:46 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo or Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake could be fallback options for the Los Angeles Dodgers if they lose out on Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels or Detroit Tigers SP David Price.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question that both Gallardo ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) and Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) would benefit greatly from a move away from extreme hitter's parks to the pitching-friendly environment of Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles.

Rangers | TEX likely to keep Yovani Gallardo

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 10:28:19 -0700

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team is not close to dealing SP Yovani Gallardo and he is expected to make his scheduled start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: The Rangers are in an unusual situation because they could be both buyers and sellers at the trade deadline. They are within reach of a playoff berth but are also trying to position themselves to be competitive beyond 2015 and would prefer to acquire players who aren't rentals. Gallardo ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) is 7-9 with a 2.91 ERA through 20 starts but has won just one of his four starts this month.

Royals | KC interested in Yovani Gallardo

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 15:20:52 -0700

The Kansas City Royals are interested in Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo, according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports, Thursday, July 23.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) is 7-9 with a 2.91 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 117 1/3 innings this season. Gallardo is one of the many pitchers rumored to be drawing interest from the Royals, and he could likely be had for far less than some of the bigger names on the market.

Rangers | Listening to Yovani Gallardo offers

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 19:24:02 -0700

The Texas Rangers are listening to trade offers for SP Yovani Gallardo, according to sources. The Rangers are believed to be interested in SP Cole Hamels, and it was reported over the weekend they could be buyers and sellers at the trade deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels would be an obvious upgrade over Gallardo for the rotation, but Texas is in a weird situation. They're still within striking distance of a playoff spot and adding Hamels and keeping Gallardo would make them a nice contender.

Rangers | Yovani Gallardo could become available

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 17:04:00 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo could become available for trade right near the July 31 trade deadline. Gallardo is a free agent after this season, but the Rangers won't want to trade him if they feel they are still in contention for the postseason.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has had a fine season but is in line for some regression, especially at home in a hitter-friendly environment in the second half. A trade to a more pitcher-friendly venue would give him a more positive outlook to finish up the 2015 season.

Rangers | Yovani Gallardo not receiving support

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 12:22:08 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo is only receiving 3.02 runs of support in his 19 starts this year, ranking him 48th among 50 qualifying starters. Gallardo is sixth in the league with a 2.62 ERA but has a record of 7-8.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) also owns a 1.23 WHIP, but he's fanning a mediocre 6.3 hitters per nine innings in his 19 starts (113 1/3 innings). Gallardo has been a surprise, though, especially with the move to the American League and in a hitter-friendly park. Beware of some regression in the second half, especially at home.

Rangers | Yovani Gallardo shuts down Orioles

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 19:24:57 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo extended his scoreless innings streak to 29 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two over six innings against the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: The scoreless streak is the longest in the majors this season, and Gallardo ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has now allowed two runs or less in eight straight starts. Modest strikeout totals and poor run support limit his upside a bit, but as long as he is blanking opponents, he makes a solid No. 2 pitcher at FantasyScore.
