Tigers | Anibal Sanchez shows well in loss

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 21:27:18 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez allowed three earned runs, seven hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts over six innings in a quality start and loss Tuesday, July 19, against the Minnesota Twins. He threw 69 of his 100 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez was unable to put the brakes on a three-game losing skid, but it was his first quality start since being reinstated to the rotation. Still, he cannot be trusted outside of deeper NL-only fantasy leagues.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez looks to get on track

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 19:45:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez is scheduled to start Tuesday, July 19, against the Minnesota Twins. He carries a 6.75 ERA into the matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez has been awful this season, and he hasn't shown many signs for turning it around. He should be avoided in all but the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Tigers | Matt Boyd, Anibal Sanchez set to start

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:47:04 -0700

Detroit Tigers SPs Matt Boyd and Anibal Sanchez will start against the Minnesota Twins Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19, respectively. SPs Jordan Zimmermann (neck) and Daniel Norris (oblique) will not be ready to return from the disabled list during this rotation turn, and they both may need a rehab start before being activated from the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Boyd and Sanchez have done nothing to instill confidence in starting them as anything more than contrarian fliers in the daily contests. Similarly, Norris has been limited to just three starts this season and owns a 4.06 mark through his 17 career starts. He's a deep league option when healthy. Stay tuned for updates on Zimmermann, as he's the only universal fantasy option, and he should be stashed everywhere.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson ends first half on fire

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 13:35:32 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson finished 2-for-4 with a three-run blast off Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez to lift the Blue Jays to their eighth win in nine games on Sunday, July 10.

Fantasy Tip: Donaldson, who heads into the Midsummer Classic batting .304 with 23 home runs, 63 RBI and a major-league best 80 runs scored, has looked every bit like the reigning AL MVP since June 8, hitting .408 with 10 homers, 33 RBI and 37 runs scored over that 32-game stretch. The three time All-Star also became only the sixth player in AL history to amass 20 home runs and 80 runs before the break, joining Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Reggie Jackson, Frank Thomas and Alex Rodriguez.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez shelled by Cleveland

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 20:21:42 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez allowed seven runs, five hits and four walks with six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in another poor outing against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, July 5. He threw just 50 of his 89 pitches for strikes.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez a starter for now

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 05:06:25 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez has been moved back to the starting rotation in light of the injury to SP Jordan Zimmermann (neck). Sanchez will start Tuesday, July 5, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez has been ineffective this season and found himself demoted to the bullpen on more than one occasion. Especially with the way Cleveland has mastered the Tigers this year, the advice would be to stay away.

Tigers | Detroit mixing up rotation

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 13:15:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris will start against the Seattle Mariners Thursday, June 23, SP Anibal Sanchez will start against the Cleveland Indians Saturday, June 25, and SP Mike Pelfrey will start against the Miami Marlins Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: There is minimal fantasy value for all three hurlers, and none are anything more than potential streamers in seasonal leagues or low-priced fliers in daily contests. Norris has the most appeal in the long term, but his 3.84 ERA and 6.5 K/9 through 14 career starts hardly jumps off the page.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez demoted to the bullpen

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 13:20:00 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez has been removed from the starting rotation and will pitch out of the bullpen, manager Brad Ausmus announced Wednesday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a swift fall for Sanchez, as he has seen his ERA rise in each of the past three seasons. In the majority of leagues, Sanchez should be replaced. There is a chance he could develop into a dominant bullpen arm, but outside of taking a wait-and-see approach in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, there is no fantasy value. Stay tuned for who is announced as Sanchez's replacement.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez's next start in jeopardy

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 10:27:35 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez may not make his next start after allowing six runs on eight hits (three home runs) in just three innings to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Tuesday, May 31. "I don't think he's real confident on the mound right now, so we're going to have to make an adjustment with Sanchy," manager Brad Ausmus said. "Something's gotta be done because we need better starts than that." Sanchez has given up 14 home runs this year, tied for most in the league, and he has a 6.67 ERA in 11 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Home run allowance has been a problem for Sanchez in the past, too. The bottom line here is that Sanchez can't be trusted in any fantasy leagues right now and should be left to the waiver wire in all but AL-only formats. Perhaps Shane Greene (finger) will take Sanchez's rotation spot when he comes off the DL.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez awful in May

Tue, 31 May 2016 23:20:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez surrendered six runs on eight hits, including three home runs, in just three innings on Tuesday, May 31. He finished the month with a 0-4 record, 7.09 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in six starts.

Fantasy Tip: Only a furious rally kept Sanchez from moving into a multi-way tie for the major-league lead in losses (seven). The veteran gave up at least four runs in every start this month and served up nine home runs as well. It's unclear how long the Tigers are willing to live with Sanchez's struggles, but you shouldn't any longer. At best those in AL-only leagues can stash him on the bench.
