Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo back to DL

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:38:12 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (back) was placed on the disabled list with lower back inflammation Wednesday, July 20. He received an injection Wednesday and could be back in 15 days. OF Delino DeShields Jr. and 2B Hanser Alberto were recalled from the minors in corresponding moves.

Fantasy Tip: Choo has hit well (.260-7-17) when he's been on the field this year, but the problem is he can't stay out of the trainer's room and has only played 33 games in 2016. If you're out of roster space in mixed leagues, cutting Choo would be advised. DeShields and Alberto are deep AL-only options only, as they'll likely be used as depth. Jurickson Profar, who has played excellent in limited duty, should now become an everyday player and should be owned universally.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo back in lineup

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:47:44 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (back) is back in the starting lineup as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum Tuesday, July 19. 1B Prince Fielder remains out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Choo has had his fair share of trouble staying on the field this year (just 32 games), but he's produced when he's played with a .271 average, seven home runs and 17 RBI and is a good table-setter for a potent lineup. Return him to all fantasy lineups in a juicy matchup. Fielder's power and playing time have diminished, making him a corner infield backup in deep mixed and AL-only universes.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo could return Tuesday

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:50:56 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (back) could return to the leadoff spot as soon as Tuesday, July 19. He said he was good enough to play Monday, July 18, but manager Jeff Banister wanted to rest him for one more day. The Rangers haven't scored a first-inning run in the last 11 games in which Choo didn't hit leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Don't fret Choo owners, it looks like he'll be back soon. The Korean outfielder has struggled to stay on the field in recent years, but when on it in 2016 he's contributing across multiple categories with a .274/.388/.496 slash line, seven home runs, 22 runs, 17 RBI and four steals. Get him back in your lineups everywhere when he returns.

Rangers | No Shin-Soo Choo vs. Angels

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 14:57:27 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (back) is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 18. 2B Rougned Odor drops to third in the lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano Monday.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Choo has been solid this season, but he's been limited to just 31 games. He's worth owning in all settings, but if you're pressed for lineup space in shallow leagues, it isn't out of the question to replace him with a healthy hitter. Odor hitting third increases his RBI opportunities and improves his value slightly Monday. He's a solid mid-tier option at the keystone in all fantasy leagues.
