Wed, 17 Apr 2013 11:05:35 -0700 Cleveland Indians SP Ubaldo Jimenez allowed seven runs in the second inning en route to losing to the Boston Red Sox Tuesday, April 16. He walked five, including two with the bases loaded. Jimenez is just 1-12 since the second half of last season. He gave up two hits and seven earned runs while striking out one in only 1 2/3 innings in the outing. Fantasy Tip: After an encouraging first start to the season, Jimenez has put together back-to-back frustrating starts in which his control has once again abandoned him. Until he can get back on track, he should be benched in mixed formats or dropped altogether for a more promising pitcher.
Fri, 12 Apr 2013 18:23:01 -0700 Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said Thursday, April 11, that SP Ubaldo Jimenez had a "healthy" bullpen session Wednesday, April 10. However, Friday, April 12, he corrected his wording, indicating there were no health issues with the pitcher. "Is that what I said? Maybe I misspoke," Francona said. "I meant that his stride foot was closed and he was throwing the ball downhill. I think I meant to say 'crisp'. (Healthy) was a bad word (to use). He's very healthy. My point was he had a good side session, and we're trying to build off that."
Wed, 03 Apr 2013 21:00:23 -0700 Cleveland Indians SP Ubaldo Jimenez held the Toronto Blue Jays to just one run, a solo home run by 3B Maicer Izturis, over six innings in a no-decision Wednesday, April 3. He ended up throwing 63 of his 104 pitches for strikes in the quality start. Fantasy Tip: Jimenez was awfully shaky last season, and really ever since coming over in a blockbuster trade from the Colorado Rockies in 2011. It's just one start, so don't get overly excited. He had a quality start in his first outing of the 2012 season against the Toronto Blue Jays, but ended up going 9-17 with a 5.40 ERA in 31 starts. Right now, he is a worth using in AL-only formats, but only the deepest of mixed leagues.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 17:02:27 -0800 Cleveland Indians SP Ubaldo Jimenez gave up one run and three hits while striking out two and walking none in four innings in his third spring outing Thursday, March 7. He headed to the bullpen after and finished the day throwing 60 pitches. "I felt good," Jimenez said. "I was able to attack the strike zone and I threw all my pitches for strikes. Everything went good. I was trying to command my fastball and, what I did today different than the other days, I threw more breaking balls then before."
Wed, 20 Feb 2013 06:59:17 -0800 The Cleveland Indians have worked on SP Ubaldo Jimenez's delivery. "We are trying to get more rhythm and aggressiveness in his delivery. We want to get his arm action a little smoother. He's never going to be the poster child for delivery," manager Terry Francona said. "But If he can get to the point where he's pounding the ball down in the zone, he will be fine."
Tue, 19 Feb 2013 12:05:55 -0800 Cleveland Indians SP Ubaldo Jimenez threw all of his pitches during a live batting practice session Tuesday, Feb. 19, and his right-arm delivery looked more fluid.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 20:01:26 -0800 Cleveland Indians Ps Justin Masterson, Ubaldo Jimenez, Brett Myers and Zach McAllister are all but locked for four of the first five rotation spots. Sun, 10 Feb 2013 21:32:12 -0800 Cleveland Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said Sunday, Feb. 10, that he is confident SP Ubaldo Jimenez can smooth out his mechanics in 2013. "I think he still has great stuff and the ability to be a very effective Major League starting pitcher," Antonetti said. "But as we've talked about, the thing that's the key for him is consistency. It starts with his ability to execute his delivery consistently."
Fri, 04 Jan 2013 19:01:54 -0800 Cleveland Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said Friday, Jan. 4, that SP Justin Masterson, SP Ubaldo Jimenez and P Brett Myers have spots in the rotation entering spring training.
