Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez on the comeback

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 19:37:03 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez has emerged as a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year thanks to a 2.96 ERA and career-best 3.21 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his first 16 starts this season. He has worked with special assignment pitching instructor, and former big leaguer, Ramon Martinez.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez ($6,700; or 13.4% of cap) has re-emerged as a solid FantasyScore option most nights, particularly at home where he is 5-1 with a 2.06 ERA over seven starts. At Camden Yards, he has 47 strikeouts over 48 innings with a .213 opponent batting average. He is also a beast in day games, going 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA in four outings. Remember that if you play FantasyScore on a regular basis.

Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez getting results

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 08:18:57 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings over the last month.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez's stats are a little deceiving because he appears to have lady luck on his side with a 1.34 WHIP. He has allowed 36 hits and 13 walks and those will start scoring. At $6,700 (13.4% of cap), he's at a midrange price on FantasyScore.

Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez roughed up

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:11:04 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez allowed a season-high 10 hits Wednesday, May 27, against the Houston Astros. Jimenez allowed one walk and four runs over seven innings, managing to strikeout five hitters.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has allowed at least six hits in five consecutive starts. The strikeouts have been there for Jimenez, but he poses a lot of risk on FantasyScore, while allowing so many base runners.

Orioles | Bud Norris scratched from start

Fri, 15 May 2015 20:45:27 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris (illness) has been scratched from his start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, May 16, and SP Ubaldo Jimenez will start in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is off to a strong start in 2015, and he could make a nice value play at FantasyScore against an Angels team ranked 26th in runs scored.

Orioles | Bud Norris feeling under the weather

Fri, 15 May 2015 13:33:51 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris (illness) is sick again, and his start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, May 16, is in jeopardy. SP Ubaldo Jimenez would start Saturday, if needed, with SP Chris Tillman starting Sunday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players will want to check for an official announcement, because Norris ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been pitching awful (9.88 ERA with a league-worst 30 earned runs allowed this season). Jimenez ($4,900, 9.8% of cap), on the other hand, appears locked into rebounding in 2015.Jimenez is currently sporting a 2.41 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP and a 8.6 K/9.

Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez enjoying home cooking

Mon, 11 May 2015 22:10:16 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez allowed just two earned runs, six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over seven innings in a win Monday, May 11, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez is now 6-0 with a 2.14 ERA over his past seven outings at Camden Yards. FantasyScore owners will want to keep that in mind for Sunday when he faces the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at home. At $4,900 (or 9.8% of cap) he is proving to be a reliable and relatively cheap option.

Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez continues strong start

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 16:37:24 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez continued his strong start to the year by giving up just two runs (one earned) on three hits and six strikeouts to beat the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, April 29. Jimenez walked just one in the outing in seven innings of work. He is now sporting a 1.59 ERA on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) strong start to the season has got to turn some heads in the fantasy world, especially while shutting down the likes of strong offensive teams such as the White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox. Expect some regression to the mean eventually, though, as he's currently sporting a .147 BABIP and ridiculous 90.2% strand rate. Jimenez can surely be useful at FantasyScore in the right matchups, but don't completely buy in just yet.

Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez wins No. 5 spot

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 14:43:20 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez has won the fifth spot in the team's starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) was a bit of a surprise announcement, as many thought Kevin Gausman ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) would make the rotation. Jimenez had a 6-9 record and 4.81 ERA a year ago. Gausman was 7-7 with a 3.57 mark. This could be a decision corrected not long into the season, but for now Gausman has little fantasy value as a reliever and Jimenez gets the job.
