Cubs | Jason Hammel throws

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 14:54:45 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (hamstring) threw a side session Saturday, July 18, without issues. He's set to start Tuesday, July 21, against the Cincinnati Reds.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) might be too pricey to risk it on FantasyScore in his first start since leaving with a hamstring injury.

Cubs | Jason Hammel is fine

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 09:09:52 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (hamstring) checked out fine after undergoing an MRI exam, and he's expected to make his next start after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) has been pitching well of late, and aside from a four-run outing June 28, he hadn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his last seven starts. He's been great at keeping the ball out of the air and is putting up a career-high 9.1 K/9 in 2015.

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 15:55:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings against the Miami Marlins Friday, July 3, but suffered his fourth loss of the season. He struck out five batters and walked one during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) has allowed more than three earned runs in only one of his last seven starts. Hammel is scheduled to face the St. Louis Cardinals in his next start and could be a risky option on FantasyScore because of the opponent.

Cubs | Jason Hammel spins another solid game

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 20:47:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel struck out six batters through 7 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing two hits and two walks during the Cubs' 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday, June 23. Hammel did not factor into the decision.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) currently sports a 2.65 ERA, 3.03 FIP and 0.94 WHIP with 92 strikeouts over 91 2/3 innings this season. The veteran righty has only allowed more than three earned runs in just two of his 14 starts this season. He is an excellent middle-of-the-rotation starter in seasonal leagues, and FantasyScore players can start him with confidence in favorable matchups going forward.

Cubs | Jason Hammel not good against CLE

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 21:52:39 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel is set to face the Cleveland Indians Thursday, June 18. He is 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA in eight career appearances (four starts) against the Indians.

Fantasy Tip: At $8,800 (or 17.6% of cap) Hammel is a bit overpriced in FantasyScore based on his history against the Indians. And Cleveland should be fighting mad after getting embarrassed in a 17-0 setback Wednesday.

Cubs | Jason Hammel starting Sunday

Fri, 29 May 2015 14:24:32 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel is starting against the Kansas City Royals Sunday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: While his win total sits at just three, Hammel ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has a 2.98 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 over 60 1/3 innings through nine starts. And though he has pitched extremely well, the Royals are an admirable opponent. FantasyScore players should view Hammel as a high-risk, high-reward start in all formats Sunday.
