He didn't give up a hit until the fourth inning despite battling soreness in his right knee. "I get to a certain point now where its almost like I'm pitching on one leg and transfer everything to the arm," Hammel said. "I got one out further than last time, I guess, so thats good. We've just got to get the leg stronger, but I'm definitely hitting the fatigue stage."

However, he acknowledged he tired down the stretch because he hadn't conditioned how he normally would between starts. He said he will try to do more conditioning this week, although he doesn't anticipate being cleared to run any time soon.
