Cubs | Jason Hammel spins another solid game

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 20:47:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel struck out six batters through 7 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing two hits and two walks during the Cubs' 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday, June 23. Hammel did not factor into the decision.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) currently sports a 2.65 ERA, 3.03 FIP and 0.94 WHIP with 92 strikeouts over 91 2/3 innings this season. The veteran righty has only allowed more than three earned runs in just two of his 14 starts this season. He is an excellent middle-of-the-rotation starter in seasonal leagues, and FantasyScore players can start him with confidence in favorable matchups going forward.

Cubs | Jason Hammel not good against CLE

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 21:52:39 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel is set to face the Cleveland Indians Thursday, June 18. He is 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA in eight career appearances (four starts) against the Indians.

Fantasy Tip: At $8,800 (or 17.6% of cap) Hammel is a bit overpriced in FantasyScore based on his history against the Indians. And Cleveland should be fighting mad after getting embarrassed in a 17-0 setback Wednesday.

Cubs | Jason Hammel continues to own Nationals

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 17:23:03 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel improved to 5-2 with a win over the Washington Nationals Saturday, June 6, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out seven. He is now 9-0 in 11 career starts against the Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: After two rough starts to open the year, Hammel ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has a 2.76 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 75 innings. His solid ratios and strikeout potential make him worth starting at FantasyScore whenever he draws a solid matchup.

Cubs | Jason Hammel has career-high 11 Ks

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 20:17:51 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel posted a career-high 11 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings in a win against the Miami Marlins Monday, June 1. He allowed just one run on four hits with no walks while throwing 117 pitches, his most since 2009.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel lowered his ERA to 2.82, and he has been giving FantasyScore owners tremendous return on their investment of $7,200 (or 14.4% of cap).

Cubs | Jason Hammel starting Sunday

Fri, 29 May 2015 14:24:32 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel is starting against the Kansas City Royals Sunday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: While his win total sits at just three, Hammel ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has a 2.98 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 over 60 1/3 innings through nine starts. And though he has pitched extremely well, the Royals are an admirable opponent. FantasyScore players should view Hammel as a high-risk, high-reward start in all formats Sunday.

Cubs | Jason Hammel has nail issue

Fri, 29 May 2015 11:08:59 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (hand) has been hampered by a fingernail issue on his right hand.

Fantasy Tip: This could be an issue for Hammel ($7,200, 14.4% of cap), as any issue with a fingernail could hamper gripping the ball, releasing it, holding on properly, etc. The best thing to do is leave Hammel sidelined until he is 100 percent.

Cubs | Jason Hammel has success vs. Brewers

Fri, 08 May 2015 13:06:35 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel has a 5-0 record with a 2.20 ERA over seven career starts against the Milwaukee Brewers. Hammel is starting against Milwaukee Friday, May 8.

Fantasy Tip: In his last start, Hammel ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk with four punchouts through six innings against the Brewers. He admitted to pitching with a broken fingernail on the middle finger of his right hand and never had real command of his fastball during the start. At his cap hit, Hammel has nice upside, and he should be viewed as a potential source of cap relief for FantasyScore players, albeit one with a degree of risk.

Cubs | Jason Hammel pitches well against MIL

Thu, 07 May 2015 16:52:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel is 5-0 with a 2.20 ERA in seven career starts against the Milwaukee Brewers, who he faces Friday, May 8.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has allowed at least three earned runs in four of his five starts this season. However, the Brewers rank 13th in the National League in OPS (.630) and have the third most strikeouts in the NL with 232. Hammel profiles as a risk/reward play at FantasyScore.

Cubs | Jason Hammel pitched with a cracked nail

Mon, 04 May 2015 15:39:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (finger) is expected to make his next start after pitching against the Milwaukee Brewers with a cracked fingernail on his right middle finger Sunday, May 3. Hammel's next start is projected for Friday, May 8, against the Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) fastball command was noticeably off Sunday, so perhaps the fingernail played a part in the location problems. While had an excellent outing in his previous start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Hammel needs to string together a few plus-showings before he can be relied on with confidence in any fantasy format.

Cubs | Jason Hammel has Brewers number

Sun, 03 May 2015 07:13:15 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel will start against a familiar opponent Sunday, May 3, when the Cubs play the Milwaukee Brewers. Hammel is one of two active pitchers with a 5-0 record against the Brewers. San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner is the only pitcher, with at least five starts against Milwaukee, to have a better ERA than Hammel.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has 23 strikeouts through 25 and one-third innings this season, and he is worthy of strong FantasyScore consideration, while offering some cap relief at the most important position.
