Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel yielded one run on five hits in seven innings of work against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, July 27. He walked two and struck out seven while improving to 10-5.
Fantasy Tip: Hammel has allowed two runs or less in five of his last six starts and just logged his third consecutive "W." He has been a consistent performer this season and is someone that should be a fixture in your fantasy rotation.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel ended a four-game losing streak with a masterful six-inning effort against the Texas Rangers on Saturday, July 16, allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven for his first victory since June 4.
Fantasy Tip: While Hammel did have a horrific outing against the New York Mets (surrendered 10 runs in four innings) on July 1, he received little to no run support during his slide. The cramping issue in his right hand that bothered him in his last start did not appear to be an issue either. Hammel should be a fine fantasy start in all formats Friday in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (thumb) suffered cramping in his pitching thumb and had to leave his start Thursday, July 7, against the Atlanta Braves.
Fantasy Tip: Hammel will get some natural rest with the All-Star break, and in his defense it was quite humid following a rain delay. Don't read too much into this injury and continue to utilize him as a starter in all formats.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel allowed two runs in six innings and dropped to 7-4 overall as the team lost his fourth start in a row Sunday, June 26. The Miami Marlins won, 6-1.
Fantasy Tip: Hammel has had a decent season, but he has lost some fantasy value as of late because of the Cubs' struggles. Don't panic and remove him from your lineup in long-term leagues, but in daily leagues you may want to look at other pitchers as long as the losing streak continues.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel surrendered four runs - including a pair of homers - on six hits over 5 2/3 innings in a no decision against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, June 21.
Fantasy Tip: Hammel entered the night 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA over 13 1/3 innings this season against the Cardinals, but a pair of home runs by Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday did him in. The 33-year-old right-hander is winless in his last three trips to the mound, although he isn't exactly getting beat around either (3.93 ERA). Owners should stick with him through this rough patch; he should have a good shot at picking up his eighth victory Sunday on the road against the Miami Marlins.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday homered for the fourth time in his last nine games on Tuesday, June 21, blasting a two-run home run off Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel.
Fantasy Tip: Although Holliday isn't carrying the same average he used to, he has 13 homers - more than triple his home run output from his injury-plagued the 2015 campaign (four). The 36-year-old has knocked in 40 runs as well, making his .253 average a bit more palatable. Holliday does his best work against right-handers (.268, eight home runs and 24 RBI entering Tuesday's action), so he is worth using in daily leagues when that is the case.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel allowed one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision versus the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 15, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: Hammel entered play with a 9-0 lifetime record against the Nats, so his solid outing Wednesday should have surprised no one. His next appearance will come against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, June 21.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (7-2) allowed three runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Atlanta Braves Friday, June 10, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: This was just the third time in 12 starts this season where Hammel had allowed more than two runs in a game. His next scheduled start will come against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 15, and he should be viewed as a viable pitching option in all formats.
