The Pittsburgh Pirates are close to signing free-agent OF Nate McLouth (Braves), according to a source. McLouth was drafted by Pittsburgh in 2000 and was an All-Star with the team in 2008. He could take one of the corner outfield spots next year.

The Atlanta Braves placed OF Nate McLouth (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list Friday, July 29, with an abdominal strain and recalled OF Jose Constanza from the minors in a corresponding move. Constanza is starting in center field Friday.

Atlanta Braves OF Jordan Schafer (finger) is taking swings and could be just a few days away from making his return, so he is unlikely to land on the disabled list. Skipper Fredi Gonzalez said Schafer will continue to serve as the starting center fielder when he returns. OF Nate McLouth could be used as the fourth outfielder with 3B Chipper Jones (knee) returning from the DL and OF Martin Prado returning to left field.
