Tue, 22 Jan 2013 15:41:16 -0800 The Tampa Bay Rays signed free-agent OF Shelley Duncan (Indians) and Ps Jamey Wright (Dodgers), Juan Oviedo (elbow) and Juan Sandoval (Brewers) to minor league deals with invites to spring training Tuesday, Jan. 22. Oviedo will miss most of the season after having Tommy John surgery in September of last year. Oviedo's contract includes a team option for 2014.
Thu, 06 Sep 2012 09:42:24 -0700 Miami Marlins RP Juan Oviedo (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Thursday, Sept. 6, and is expected to miss most of next season, according to his agent. Oviedo will become a free agent at the end of this season.

Mon, 23 Jul 2012 13:32:38 -0700 The Miami Marlins activated RP Juan Oviedo (elbow) from the restricted list Monday, July 23, and placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain.

Mon, 16 Jul 2012 15:06:35 -0700 Miami Marlins RP Juan Oviedo (elbow) has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. There is no timetable for his return.
Sun, 15 Jul 2012 21:02:23 -0700 The return of Miami Marlins RP Juan Oviedo (elbow), formerly known as Leo Nunez, might be delayed. It has nothing to do with an immigration issue, but rather because he experienced elbow pain in a minor-league rehab game with Triple-A New Orleans Saturday, July 14. Oviedo returned to Miami for further evaluation. He was scheduled to re-join the team July 23.
Tue, 10 Jul 2012 16:14:53 -0700 The Miami Marlins are likely to install a closer-by-committee setup after the All-Star break. Ozzie Guillen told "The Dan LeBatard Show" on Miami's 790 The Ticket that he plans to chat with the struggling Heath Bell in the next few days about the arrangement. Though Miami will mix and match, Steve Cishek is expected to get the first shot at becoming the primary option, with southpaw Randy Choate possibly getting chances soon against left-handed bats. Other arms that'll earn consideration are Edward Mujica (toe), who's slated to return from the disabled list this weekend, and Juan Oviedo, whose suspension for his identity fraud ends July 23. Fantasy Tip: Bell pitched well for a spell and again probably has a shot to regain his manager's trust, but that'll be more difficult to do a second time. Cishek has been the club's most reliable reliever and is the obvious fantasy target, in all formats, initially. Oviedo must prove that he's capable of retiring major leaguers consistently again after a long layoff. He's an OK target in deep leagues. Choate is probably worth owning only in NL games.
Sun, 08 Jul 2012 13:50:43 -0700 Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen indicated RP Juan Oviedo could receive some save opportunities once he returns to the team. "He's going to help the bullpen. A day like today, he'll take [RP Heath Bell's] spot. [Other times] we'll see how Bell's throwing and we'll flip-flop each for whatever reason. It's going to be a big lift. Hopefully, he'll throw the ball like he has in the past," Guillen said.
