Former MLB P Ambiorix Burgos has been charged in the Dominican Republic with kidnapping and attempted murder after his ex-wife, Dilenia Reynoso, said she was forced to eat rat poison, according to The Associated Press. Santo Domingo judge Freddy Frias ordered him to remain in jail for three months while the case is prepared by prosecutors. Burgos pitched for the Kansas City Royals from 2005-06 and the New York Mets in 2007.

The Associated Press reports free-agent RP Ambiorix Burgos (Mets) has been sentenced to nine months in jail for throwing his girlfriend against a wall and pummeling her in a hotel in New York. Burgos was released by the New York Mets in December of last year.

USA TODAY is reporting former New York Mets P Ambiorix Burgos was convicted Thursday, March 12, of throwing his girlfriend against a wall and punching her in a motel. Prosecutors say a jury convicted the 24-year-old Burgos of assaulting the woman in September 2008. He faces up to a year in jail when he is sentenced Friday, April 3.

The Associated Press reports New York Mets RP Ambiorix Burgos was released from jail Wednesday, Oct. 29. He was ordered to pay $57,000 and appear every two weeks before a magistrate until a court date is set. Burgos is also prohibited from leaving the Dominican Republic without permission from an appeals court.

Updating a continuing story, the Associated Press' Dionisio Soldevila reports New York Mets RP Ambiorix Burgos spoke Wednesday night, Oct. 8, about his involvement in a hit-and-run accident in the Dominican Republic that left two women dead. "I am going to come out of this fine because my conscience is clear, and I'm not worried this will affect my career because I haven't done anything," said Burgos, speaking from a Dominican jail. He also said he had been ordered to remain in jail for three months, while waiting for his trial, out of a judge's concerns for his safety. Burgos also maintained that he was not at the wheel at the time of the accident, but was in the back seat, with his cousin driving.

Updating a continuing story, Reuters reports New York Mets RP Ambiorix Burgos turned himself in to authorities in the Dominican Republic Tuesday night, Oct. 7, after an arrest warrant had been issued for him following a Sept. 30 incident that left two women dead. Additionally, the mother of one of the victims has filed a report with the local police that accused Burgos of running her daughter over on purpose because the daughter had refused to go out with him.
