The Chicago Cubs optioned SP Chris Volstad to Triple-A Iowa and recalled C Blake Lalli from Iowa Friday, May 18. C Geovany Soto (knee) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. Lalli was hitting .178 (13-for-73) with three home runs and 11 RBIs in the minors. Volstad was 0-6 with a 7.46 ERA after losing Thursday, May 17.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs C Geovany Soto (knee) will undergo arthroscopic surgery on a torn meniscus in his left knee and will miss around three weeks. C Steve Clevenger (rib cage) is on the disabled list but was scheduled to begin taking batting practice this weekend. He won't be ready to return until next weekend, though, so C Welington Castillo will take over the catching duties for now. The Cubbies will likely recall C Blake Lalli from Triple-A Iowa.

Updating an earlier report, Chicago Cubs C Geovany Soto (knee) has a torn meniscus in his left knee and is headed to the disabled list. He's likely to undergo arthroscopic surgery.

Chicago Cubs C Geovany Soto (knee) was scratched from the starting lineup Thursday, May 17, because of left knee inflammation. He is considered day-to-day at this point.

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro, 1B Bryan LaHair and C Geovany Soto all had solo homers in a losing effort Thursday, May 3. LaHair has seven of the team's 14 homers this year, and he has hit safely in his last nine games and reached base safely in 21 straight. The Cubs had only nine homers in April, the fewest in the majors, but have hit five in the last two games. They have hit home runs in a season-high four straight games. Castro's dinger was his first, while Soto has two on the season.
