Texas Rangers SP Joe Saunders (ankle) made it through a bullpen session Monday, April 14, without any issues. He is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Sunday, April 20, but the team still wants him to test his mobility with some fielding drills. He might have another bullpen session Wednesday, April 16, and he could do fielding drills then.

The Texas Rangers placed SP Joe Saunders (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list Monday, April 7, and recalled RP Daniel McCutchen from Double-A Frisco in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Colby Lewis (hip) could be activated from the DL to make his season debut this Friday in Saunders' place. Check to see if Lewis is available in your league.

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (hip) won't be on the active roster for opening day. SPs Martin Perez, Tanner Scheppers and Joe Saunders figure to round out the starting rotation, and SP Robbie Ross could also be an option.
Mon, 24 Mar 2014 16:55:17 -0700
Texas Rangers SP Joe Saunders is likely to make the starting rotation because of the team's injuries to starting pitchers to begin the season. Saunders was dealing with a "dead arm" Sunday, March 23, and allowed nine runs in 1 1/3 innings against the San Diego Padres. Saunders is an experienced pitcher who can eat innings, making him ideal for the situation. Saunders or SP Robbie Ross could lock down a rotation spot until SP Matt Harrison (back) is ready to return.
Fantasy Tip: The Rangers would be going with Saunders strictly for his experience. Ross has more upside and should be the arm you target if you're speculating in AL-only leagues.

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said SPs Robbie Ross, Colby Lewis, Joe Saunders and Tommy Hanson are battling for the final two spots in the starting rotation.

Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando could wind up earning the long-relief role out of the bullpen, because he isn't doing much to secure a starting rotation job this spring. He allowed five runs in three innings Tuesday, March 18, and has given up 11 runs in 6 1/3 spring frames in his last two starts. Manager Ron Washington has said he wants to see Ogando earn his spot, and his recent performances haven't helped him to do that. Other options for the final three spots in the rotation include Ps Colby Lewis, Tanner Scheppers, Tommy Hanson, Joe Saunders and Robbie Ross. Ogando remains a leading candidate for one of the spots, but he's no longer a lock.
Fantasy Tip: Ogando is a risky selection for your pitching staff in mixed leagues because of his durability concerns, inconsistent control and now this. There are plenty of other arms in the late rounds that have more promise than Ogando.
