The Associated Press reports the St. Louis Cardinals signed P Sam Walton to a minor league contract.

Paul C. Smith, of Devilrays.MLB.com, reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays minor league RP Sam Walton has struggled through 10 appearances in the Arizona Fall League with the Mesa Solar Sox, producing a 7.04 ERA in 15 1-3 innings while allowing 17 hits and walking 11. Walton spent the 2004 season with Single-A Bakersfield and Double-A Montgomery.
