Rockies | Team Must Decide Whether to Protect Parker

Sun, 07 Nov 2004 16:52:43 -0800

Updating previous items, Thomas Harding, of Rockies.MLB.com, reports the Colorado Rockies must decide in November whether or not to protect minor league prospect SP Zack Parker from being exposed in the Rule 5 draft by placing him on the 40-man winter roster. Parker is currently pitching at the Arizona Fall League, but with poor results. "Right now, the focus is not on the 40-man roster," said Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd. "We're just trying to get him—healthwise, command wise and stuff-wise—back to where he was."

Rockies | Parker Struggling with Results at AFL but Still Optimistic

Sun, 07 Nov 2004 16:44:49 -0800

Thomas Harding, of Rockies.MLB.com, reports Colorado Rockies minor league prospect SP Zack Parker has not gotten good results thus far at the Arizona Fall League. After five appearances with the Mesa Solar Sox, Parker has gone just 0-2 with an 8.82 ERA. Parker (elbow, shoulder) is feeling good after having previous injury problems, but he hasn't had good results. "The numbers don't show it, but the way I feel here, I'm confident in my health," said Parker. "I'm attacking hitters. The Rockies will, hopefully, know that I'm still one of their guys. Once I get past this little blip, things are going to be good." His pitching coach at Double-A Tulsa, Bo McLaughlin, agrees. "He could be a special guy," said McLaughlin. "He's left-handed, he's shown that he has some power and can pitch."

Despite being at less than 100 percent, Parker still struck out 111 batters while walking just 36.
