Dodgers | Don Mattingly explains use of Kenley Jansen

Wed, 15 May 2013 15:26:28 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen came in for the save against the Washington Nationals Tuesday, May 14. "In that game, I had to go with the guy who's throwing the ball best; as much as anything he's been throwing the ball better than anybody," said manager Don Mattingly. RP Brandon League was never warmed up in the game, but Mattingly refused to say that Jansen is the new closer.

Fantasy Tip: We already told you that Jansen should be owned in all leagues, and this is why. It's likely that League is still Mattingly's closer, for now, but Jansen is pitching better and could take the ninth-inning duties from League if he continues to struggle.

Dodgers | Brandon League still the closer

Mon, 13 May 2013 16:18:10 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said RP Brandon League is still the team's closer "for now."

Fantasy Tip: Mattingly last week ackowledged that he was considering moving Kenley Jansen into the closer's role. Jansen should be owned in pretty much all leagues, but League will probably have to pitch his way out of the role with multiple blown saves for the switch to become a reality.

Dodgers | Closer change looming?

Thu, 09 May 2013 09:40:17 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he has considered mixing up the closer role, but he doesn't want to mess up the bullpen's fluidity.

Fantasy Tip: There's the first hint that Mattingly is considering replacing Brandon League with the more dominant Kenley Jansen. League's 5.40 ERA leaves much to be desired, but he is 8-for-9 in save chances. It looks like Donnie Baseball is looking for a reason to promote Jansen. Jansen has a 2.50 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 18 innings. It's just a matter of time before he snatches the job. You might want to see if you can buy low now.

Dodgers | Brandon League blows first save

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 12:01:07 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Brandon League blew his first save of the season against the New York Mets Wednesday, April 24, allowing a two-out single to 3B David Wright in the ninth.

Fantasy Tip: The Dodgers have another capable closer in Kenley Jansen as their setup man, but Don Mattingly will have to lose faith in League before he'll consider a chance. Jansen strikes out plenty of hitters, though, so he's worth owning for his numbers and as a handcuff to League.

Dodgers | Brandon League set at closer

Fri, 15 Feb 2013 08:34:33 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Brandon League has been anointed the closer for the team.

Fantasy Tip: The Dodgers continue to frustrate fans on Kenley Jansen. Jansen has some of the best pure stuff in baseball, but his heart condition gave the team pause. League is anything but a stalwart at the position. He also has a history of oblique and other minor injuries. He did improve his K/9 to 8.89 after being traded to the Dodgers, but his low K-rate through recent years is a trend. He'll get a ton of save chances, though. But you'll have to burn a decent pick on Jansen to handcuff the two.
