Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy has an injury clause built into his four-year, $48 million contract. The Dodgers would pay McCarthy a $5 million club option in 2019 if he missed more than 179 innings while on the disabled list. If McCarthy misses between 119 and 179 innings, the club option is $8 million.

The Royals have talked to free-agent SP Ervin Santana (Braves) and have looked at free-agent SP Brandon McCarthy (Yankees), Jason Hammel (Athletics) and others.
