Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy scheduled to throw

Wed, 04 May 2016 20:52:34 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) is scheduled to throw from a mound Thursday, May 5, in Los Angeles as he makes his way back from reconstructive elbow surgery.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy is making slow and steady progress, and he could be back sometime this summer. Avoid him in fantasy leagues until he can officially return and prove his health in a few starts without any setbacks or a pitch cap.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy throws bullpen

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 17:36:52 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) threw a bullpen session for team officials Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: While he's still months away from his return, this is still a positive development for the veteran right-hander, who should join the Dodgers at some point during the summer after recovering from last year's Tommy John surgery. McCarthy merits attention as he gets closer, given his fine track record in the big leagues.

Dodgers | LA Dodgers send several players to DL

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 13:13:16 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Andre Ethier (leg) was among a number of players placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, April 3. Joining him were SP Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder), SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow), 2B Howie Kendrick (calf), INF Alex Guerrero (knee), C Yasmani Grandal (forearm), SP Brett Anderson (back), SP Mike Bolsinger (oblique) and RP Josh Ravin (wrist).

Fantasy Tip: Los Angeles' pitching depth figures to be tested right off the bat, as Ryi is expected to be out another month while McCarthy and Anderson may not return until the second half. Ethier's absence should make Carl Crawford a full-time player again until around June, making the ex-Tampa Bay Ray standout a fine under-the-radar fantasy option. The other notable name here is Grandal, who should be a serviceable catcher in fantasy if he is healthy. He is expected back in mid-April.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy will throw in May

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 16:53:15 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) doesn't expect to start throwing to hitters until May. At that point, he'll appear in some rehab games after and return mid-season.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy was 3-0 with a 5.87 ERA in four starts with his new team last season before having to undergo Tommy John surgery last May. He had a good run in the Bronx with the Yankees the year prior, but owners would be advised to wait to see how McCarthy fares upon his return. There's some potential, but his window appears to be closing, too.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy set for Tommy John

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 15:50:19 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: It is safe to drop McCarthy in all seasonal fantasy formats, and likely everywhere outside of cavernous keeper/dynasty formats. Keep an eye out for Julio Urias, who is a young left-handed pitching phenom, and could earn a rotation spot later in the year. In the meantime, Scott Baker ($3,000, 6.0% of cap), who started Sunday, April 26, and Carlos Frias are candidates to start, however neither projects to have any significant fantasy impact.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy done for the year

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 16:24:19 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow and is done for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: You can now drop McCarthy ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in all yearly formats. Scott Baker, who filled in for a spot start yesterday against the San Diego Padres, could be in line to jump into the starting rotation as a result. Carlos Frias is another candidate to enter the fray. Both would be weak starting pitching options at FantasyScore. Julio Urias, the young left-handed pitching phenom, might be the long-term solution for a rotation spot later in the year.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy to undergo MRI exam

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 11:33:21 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) left his start against the San Diego Padres Saturday, April 25, in the sixth inning, due to tightness in his right elbow. After the game, he admitted to reporters that he has been bothered by elbow issues for more than a week and said he should have left the game in the second inning. McCarthy is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Monday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is expected to miss at least one start and could wind up on the disabled list depending on what the MRI exam results reveal.

Dodgers | LA not pursuing big-name starters

Sat, 03 Jan 2015 10:05:49 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi said the team's signings of Brett Anderson and Brandon McCarthy have taken them out of the running for any big-name starting pitchers that remain in free agency. "We don't comment on specific free agents or specific economic classes of free agents, but like I said, our focus on the starting pitching side is going to be depth options either at Triple-A or guys who could potentially serve as a long man in the bullpen," Zaidi said.

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 04:25:07 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy has an injury clause built into his four-year, $48 million contract. The Dodgers would pay McCarthy a $5 million club option in 2019 if he missed more than 179 innings while on the disabled list.
