He was put on anti-seizure medication after a CT scan taken at the Mayo Clinic determined that he had not suffered additional head trauma. McCarthy underwent emergency surgery last year after being struck on the head by a line drive and knew that the injury would make him more susceptible to having seizures, although this was the first time this had happened to him. McCarthy believes he can resume throwing in several days because his shoulder is "pretty much pain-free."

McCarthy has had this same injury in the past and will likely miss a month.

McCarthy threw plenty of strikes in both of his starts this year, but he hasn't been mixing up his speeds on all of his different pitches enough. "We just have to change the speeds, get some more offspeed pitching there, expand the zone with two strikes. It's just kind of simple stuff that I think we've gotten a little bit away from and a little too comfortable with fastballs."
Fantasy Tip: McCarthy doesn't miss many bats with his stuff, so it's imperative that he keeps hitters off balance to force weak contact. He wasn't able to do that in his first two starts, but there is plenty of time. As long as he can manage to stay healthy, he should be a solid contributor in WHIP.

"I assume it will become less of a hot issue," McCarthy told reporters at Salt River Fields. "For me, it can't really get more behind me than it is. But I think I'll always be that guy, where it's one of the defining markers for me. I just have to try to pitch well enough to get out of that."
