Nationals | Duncan coming back from hernia

The Washington Post reports Washington Nationals OF Chris Duncan is 2-for-18 with six strikeouts this spring, with the process of rebuilding his swing more struggle than success as he recovers from neck problems and a sports hernia. He works with hitting coach Rick Eckstein perhaps more than any other player, and Eckstein believes Duncan has made progress. "No doubt," Eckstein said. "He's shown it in batting practice. At times, he's shown it in a game. It's just not the result everybody is looking for. That doesn't mean it's not there. You can absolutely put an 'A' swing out there and swing and miss."

Cardinals.MLB.com's Matthew Leach reports Washington Nationals OF Chris Duncan holds no ill will for the St. Louis Cardinals trading him last season. His father, pitching coach Dave Duncan, and manager Tony La Russa were angered by the move. "I try to remember all the good times. Even though last year didn't work out good for me, it was still an exciting year," Chris Duncan said. "The team made it to the playoffs. Getting a chance to play with my dad and win a World Series is something that I'll never forget."

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the Boston Red Sox released OF Chris Duncan Thursday, Aug. 20, less than a month after he was acquired for IF Julio Lugo. Duncan hit .185 in 85 at-bats with two home runs and 10 RBIs for Boston's Triple-A Pawtucket team since the July 22 trade.

Sean McAdam, of the Boston Herald, reports the Boston Red Sox acquired OF Chris Duncan from the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, July 22, in exchange for SS Julio Lugo. The Red Sox will still be responsible for the remaining $13.5 million on Lugo's contract, according to sources. Duncan will reportedly be assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Derrick Goold, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Cardinals OF Chris Duncan has gone 1-for-31 in his last 16 games with 13 strikeouts and nine walks. Manager Tony La Russa said Duncan is not 100 percent physically and believes the fans are treating Duncan unfairly.
