The Texas Rangers have signed free-agent OF Conor Jackson (Red Sox) and RP Joe Beimel (Pirates) to minor league contracts which include invitations to spring training. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

The Boston Red Sox offered DH David Ortiz and RP Dan Wheeler arbitration. Ortiz is a Type-A free agent, and Wheeler is a Type B. The team declined to offer SP Erik Bedard, OF J.D. Drew, SP Tim Wakefield, RP Trever Miller, C Jason Varitek and OF Conor Jackson arbitration.

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox OF Conor Jackson (knee) suffered a bruised right knee and other injuries in a collision with the fence Sunday, Sept. 4. Jackson is also nursing a sore right wrist, forearm and ribs. "I think the (worst) is probably the knee," Jackson said. "It's still banged up. After a few days of treatment, it will be all right."

Boston Red Sox OF Conor Jackson said he is willing to accept any role the team wants to give him for the rest of the season. Jackson believes he likely will be used as a pinch hitter against left handed pitching.
