Giants | Santiago Casilla implodes

Sun, 31 May 2015 17:20:41 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla blew his third save of the year, allowing four runs and three hits in 2/3 of an inning against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: Casilla has had back-to-back shaky outings, and his 1.48 WHIP is a little concerning. He isn't on the hot seat just yet, but another rough outing or two could change that in a hurry.

Giants | Santiago Casilla off to fast start

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 06:59:05 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla has allowed one hit and struck out three in three scoreless innings thus far. He is 3-for-3 in save chances.

Fantasy Tip: So much for the banter that Sergio Romo could steal some save chances. Romo and Casilla have pitched in three games over the last four days, including the last two days. Jeremy Affeldt could get the call in a save chance Friday if the team is reluctant for either of those two pitching three straight days so early.

Giants | Sergio Romo to see save chances?

Sat, 04 Apr 2015 12:22:40 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said RP Sergio Romo could be used in certain ninth-inning situations this season based on matchups, although he reiterated that RP Santiago Casilla is still the team's closer.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be good news for owners who selected Romo as a handcuff option in fantasy baseball drafts. If Casilla gets off to a slow start this season while Romo thrives, he could easily regain San Francisco's closing job.

Giants | Santiago Casilla has foot contusion

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 11:13:40 -0800

San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla (foot) suffered a foot contusion during workouts Thursday, Feb. 26, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Casilla will be fine.

Fantasy Tip: Casilla is a cheap saves gamble later in mixed drafts, but there's a good chance he'll be looking over his shoulder all year at Sergio Romo. In a best-case scenario, you would handcuff the two Gigantes relievers to each other.

Giants | Santiago Casilla the closer

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 10:58:11 -0800

San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla will be the team's closer heading into the season, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: This was expected to be the case all along. Casilla had a sparkling 1.70 ERA and 0.86 WHIP last year while recording 19 saves for the Gigantes last year. Sergio Romo, when healthy, is a threat to Casilla in the ninth, though, so it's best to handcuff the two if you can.

Giants | Santiago Casilla to close for now

Sun, 06 Jul 2014 20:59:28 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said RP Santiago Casilla will be the team's closer for now. Bochy likes to use RP Jeremy Affeldt in the sixth and seventh inning because he can pitch multiple innings.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should look to add Casilla if he is still available in their leagues, but it is not known how long he will hold onto that job.

Giants | Sergio Romo out as closer

Sun, 29 Jun 2014 12:04:12 -0700

San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo has been removed from the closer role, according to manager Bruce Bochy. RPs Santiago Casilla and Jeremy Affeldt will share closing duties for the immediate future. Romo is expected to pitch in the seventh and eighth innings for the time being, and there is a possibility he could regain his old job down the line.

Fantasy Tip: Casilla and Affeldt should be added immediately in all fantasy leagues. Romo is 0-3 with a 10.64 ERA in his last 12 appearances and has blown five saves this season. He has allowed six home runs this year (tying a career high) and opponents were hitting .455 against him in his last five games, taking advantage of an ineffective slider. That being said, it might be worth it to hang on to Romo if he proves he can turn things around and reclaim the closer's job.

Giants | Sergio Romo safe

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 07:09:47 -0700

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy met with CL Sergio Romo after his two blown saves over the weekend and Romo's day off Sunday, June 15. Bochy said Romo is still his closer, and the two chalked up the blown saves to bad luck.

Fantasy Tip: Romo had been pretty good until recently. Hopefully the reassurance will help get him back on track. It's a good idea to handcuff him with Santiago Casilla
