Scott Atchison Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Scott Atchison MLB and fantasy baseball news
Tue, 14 May 2013 14:13:10 -0700 The New York Mets placed RP Scott Atchison (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his elbow from bone spurs and an aggravated nerve Tuesday, May 14. Atchison will take anti-inflammatory medication, and he won't throw for a week. Fantasy Tip: Atchison has bypassed Tommy John surgery in favor of rest right now.
Thu, 25 Apr 2013 14:19:49 -0700 New York Mets RP Scott Rice was used in the ninth inning of a tied ball game Thursday, April 25, because manager Terry Collins doesn't want to overuse RP Bobby Parnell by using him late in tied games. The Los Angeles Dodgers had a string of left-handed hitters coming to bat, too. Rice ended up letting the Dodgers take the lead and eventually win. Parnell later entered in the inning to clean up the damage, and he let an inherited runner score. Collins is also trying not to overuse RPs Scott Atchison and Brandon Lyon. Rice has entered in the eighth inning or later in each of his last five outings. Fantasy Tip: Parnell is the team's unquestioned closer, but Rice's utilization late in games shows Collins' confidence in the southpaw. Rice is solid against lefties, and he induces plenty of ground-ball outs, but don't expect him to be used in any save situations.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:48:03 -0700 The New York Mets selected the contracts of RPs LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Rice and Scott Atchison and OF Marlon Byrd Friday, March 29. They also outrighted SS Reese Havens and RP Darin Gorski to the minors.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 13:17:00 -0800 New York Mets RP Scott Atchison (elbow) is a favorite to earn one of the spots in the bullpen this spring. "I got back and I felt normal in the five outings I made in September," Atchison said. "I was able to throw multiple innings in a couple of those outings and different things to prove to myself that I was fine. I haven't had any problems getting going here. So I feel like I'm where I need to be, just like I would be any other spring, and I'll go about it normally."
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 12:06:52 -0800 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco's hold on the closer role heading into spring training is not firm, with the club looking for more bullpen help after adding RPs Scott Atchison and LaTroy Hawkins recently. The remaining options for the Mets are free-agent RP Jose Valverde (Tigers), Brian Wilson (Giants), Brandon Lyon (Blue Jays) and Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers). Valverde and Rodriguez are both represented by Scott Boras, and New York has made it clear that they won't overpay for another bullpen piece. General manager Sandy Alderson has made it clear that he is not committed to using Francisco as the primary closer this season. Alderson even went as far as saying he isn't "terribly comfortable" with Francisco being the opening day closer. Fantasy Tip: Clearly, the Mets aren't happy with settling for Francisco as their closer for the year. All indications are that they will create as much competition for the ninth-inning role in spring training as possible. Whether it be Bobby Parnell, Hawkins or an outside candidate, the role won't be defined anytime soon. Consider Francisco a low-end closing option in your draft, and if you wind up with him on your roster, it would be smart to handcuff him to another closing option in New York's bullpen.
Tue, 29 Jan 2013 07:23:43 -0800 The New York Mets signed free-agent RP Scott Atchison (Red Sox) to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Sat, 01 Dec 2012 11:28:56 -0800 Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said Saturday, Dec. 1, that the team would like to bring back Ps Scott Atchison and Rich Hill, two players who were non-tendered Friday, Nov. 30.
Fri, 30 Nov 2012 19:43:54 -0800 The Boston Red Sox non-tendered Ps Scott Atchison, Rich Hill and OF Ryan Sweeney Friday, Nov. 30, making each a free agent.
Thu, 20 Sep 2012 15:44:32 -0700 Boston Red Sox RP Scott Atchison (elbow) has been pitching with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow but has come back strong through rest and rehab. He's retired six of the seven hitters he's faced since coming off the disabled list. Atchison is hitting 90-91 mph with his fastball, which is normal for him.
Wed, 12 Sep 2012 16:13:47 -0700 The Boston Red Sox activated RP Scott Atchison (elbow) from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Sept. 12.
