Cincinnati Reds SP Jeff Francis allowed two earned runs, four hits and a walk while striking out nine batters over five innings in a loss Tuesday, April 10, for Triple-A Louisville. Francis has allowed two earned runs in each of his first two outings with the Bats.

Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty confirmed Sunday, April 1, that SP Jeff Francis will be optioned to Triple-A Louisville, and he'll be used as a starter. Francis might be back with the big club working out of the bullpen at a later date.

Cincinnati Reds SP Jeff Francis said Tuesday, March 20, that he has no intentions of opting out of his minor league contract if he is not on the big league roster by March 28. "I'm not going to go home. I'll be pitching," Francis said. "I'm not even thinking about it. I'm just trying to get people out."

Reds | Finalize two deals

The Cincinnati Reds finalized their deals with OF Ryan Ludwick and SP Jeff Francis Wednesday, Feb. 8. Ludwick will make $2.5 million this year and his deal includes a mutual option for 2013. RP Carlos Fisher was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Francis' deal is a minor league contract.

Cincinnati Reds SP Jeff Francis will earn a base salary of $1.5 million if he makes the team out of spring training. He can make a total of $3.25 million if he reaches his performance bonuses based on starts. Francis can also opt out of the contract on March 28.
